The Space
Hartefeld National’s dining and event spaces sit inside a historic stone country manor with the kind of rich original woodwork you do not get in a purpose-built banquet hall, on property whose history reaches back to 1682, when King Charles II granted William Penn the land that would become this stretch of Pennsylvania. Parts of the current site carry connections to Colonial times, the American Revolution, and the Underground Railroad.
The club itself is newer, founded in 1994 and opened in 1995 around an 18-hole Tom Fazio course, and it is now part of the Invited family of clubs under ClubCorp. The Grille & Pub, known as the Walker Cup room, has its own bar and fireplace and functions as a more casual gathering spot separate from the formal event rooms, giving a wedding weekend a second, lower-key space for a rehearsal dinner or late-night gathering.
Capacity & Layout
The main Ballroom runs 3,500 square feet and holds up to 250 for a reception, while two smaller rooms, Hartefeld A and Hartefeld B, each hold 150 and can be booked separately or combined depending on guest count. The Founder’s Room, at 40 reception capacity, suits a small rehearsal dinner or an intimate ceremony party that does not need the full ballroom.
That range, from a 40-person room to a 250-person ballroom, means a couple can scale the event to their actual guest list rather than renting one fixed space and either overfilling it or leaving it half empty. Both indoor and outdoor ceremony options are available, with the golf course itself providing the backdrop for an outdoor setup.
Amenities
Every wedding booked at Hartefeld National includes four hours of reception time with setup, breakdown, and custom menus built into the package at no extra charge, which removes a layer of negotiation that a couple often has to handle separately at other venues. On-site catering with those custom menus means the kitchen staff already knows the space and its flow.
The championship course itself, with its 6,964 yards, par 72, and history of hosting the Champions PGA Tour and the Exelon Invitational under Jim Furyk, is a credential a golf-minded guest list will recognize, and the fairway views factor into how the outdoor ceremony and photo locations are chosen. The property is wheelchair accessible, and full bar service runs through the Grille & Pub, so a couple does not need to bring in an outside bar vendor for the reception.
Location & Getting There
Hartefeld National sits in Avondale, in Pennsylvania’s countryside near land with roots to William Penn’s original 1682 grant, giving the drive in a rural, historic character rather than a suburban office-park feel. The stone manor housing the dining and event rooms signals that history the moment guests arrive.
We have worked a wedding here, moving between the Ballroom’s larger footprint and the more contained Founder’s Room over the course of an evening. The Ballroom’s size and hard stone-manor surfaces call for a sound system built for a bigger room, while the Founder’s Room, being much smaller and more enclosed, needs a scaled-down setup so the volume matches a room a fraction of the size.
