The Space
This Hampton Inn opened in August 2013 as part of a mixed-use downtown Carrboro development, with restaurants built into the ground floor of the same building and the Cat’s Cradle music venue sitting right across the parking lot. It is a modern hotel rather than a standalone event property, and the more than 3,000 square feet of meeting and event space is spread across configurable rooms rather than one grand hall.
The outdoor pool deck, with cabanas and a fire pit, gives a reception the option of stepping outside between the meeting rooms and the terrace, and we have worked an event here that used both the indoor space and the pool deck across the evening. Being LEED Silver certified means the building was designed with efficient systems throughout, which in practice shows up as consistent climate control in the event rooms regardless of the room count.
Capacity & Layout
The hotel can host business and social events for up to 200 people across its meeting spaces, which is enough room for a full wedding reception without needing an outside tent or overflow space. Because the more than 3,000 square feet is built as separate, configurable rooms rather than one ballroom, a couple can split ceremony and reception into two setups, or combine rooms for a single larger gathering, depending on the guest count.
With 142 rooms on site, including 56 suites, out-of-town guests can book directly into the same building as the event, which removes the need for a shuttle between hotel and venue that a standalone reception hall would require. The terrace and pool deck give a second, outdoor layout option for cocktail hour or a rehearsal dinner without leaving the property.
Amenities
A free business center and meeting rooms configurable for different layouts make this a practical choice for a couple who wants rehearsal logistics, gift tables, or a small vendor meeting handled on site rather than off property. The 1,100 square foot fitness center gives wedding party members a way to work off nerves the morning of, and free hot breakfast runs 6am to 10am, which covers an early load-in crew as easily as late-rising guests.
A hair salon and laundromat are both on site, useful for a wedding party dealing with last-minute touch-ups or a rented suit that needs pressing. Free WiFi runs throughout the hotel, and self-parking is available for $21 a day with covered, in-and-out parking, so guests are not hunting for street spots in a busy downtown block.
Location & Getting There
The hotel sits half a mile from UNC Chapel Hill and within walking distance of downtown Chapel Hill’s restaurants, so guests who fly in through Raleigh-Durham International Airport have a walkable downtown on either side once they check in. The Main Street restaurant row built into the same block means a rehearsal dinner or a late-night bite after the reception does not require a car.
Cat’s Cradle, the well-known music venue, sits directly across the parking lot, which is worth knowing if a couple is picking a Friday or Saturday date since it can add foot traffic and parking pressure to the block. Indoors, the hotel’s meeting rooms are carpeted, drop-ceiling spaces built for consistent acoustics, so a DJ system there behaves predictably, while the pool deck and terrace outside call for a different setup built around open air and ambient noise from the block.
