The Space
In February 1999, 1,500 acres of manicured lawns and woodlands in the Sedgefield area of Guilford County became Grandover Resort, land that developer Joseph Koury had acquired over 30 years before conceiving the Grandover name in 1993. It opened as Greensboro’s first AAA Four Diamond Award hotel, with 247 guest rooms and 45,000 square feet of meeting space built in from the start.
Two championship golf courses bookend the resort: the East Course, opened in 1996 at 7,250 yards, and the West Course, opened in 1997 at 6,800 yards in a links-style layout that flows away from the resort for its first nine holes and returns for the back nine. Both were designed by David Graham, a US Open and PGA Championship winner, working with golf architect Gary Panks. The resort’s conference-hosting reputation runs deep too: the Atlantic Coast Conference moved its headquarters here in 1997, and the North Carolina Association of Realtors followed in 2001.
Capacity & Layout
Named meeting and event spaces include the Grandville Ballroom, the Grandview Ballroom, the Whitehall Room, the Griffin Room, and outdoor lawn venues, giving couples a choice between an indoor ballroom and an outdoor setting on the same property. Across all of them, the resort offers 45,000 square feet of total meeting space, enough to run a ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception in three separate rooms if a couple wants that separation.
With multiple named ballrooms plus outdoor lawn options, the layout here supports a large wedding spread across distinct spaces rather than one room doing double duty for ceremony and reception. Choosing between the Grandville and Grandview ballrooms, or moving part of the day outdoors onto the lawns, is a decision that shapes how much resetting happens between the ceremony and the reception.
Amenities
The resort holds 244 guest rooms and suites, each with Stearns and Foster mattresses, a wet bar and small refrigerator, a 55-inch Smart TV, and a marble-tiled bathroom with a rainfall showerhead, giving out-of-town guests a hotel-quality stay without leaving the property. On-site catering runs through the resort’s own culinary team with banquet menus built for events.
Beyond the rooms, Grandover includes two restaurants, Finial and Cafe Expresso, three bars including the 1808 Bar and the 19 and Timber Bar, a full-service spa, indoor and seasonal outdoor pools, four lighted Har-Tru tennis courts, a fitness center with a yoga studio, and an on-site art gallery featuring local North Carolina and Piedmont Triad artists. Walking and biking trails run across the grounds as well. Parking is free, with 1,000 spaces on site.
Location & Getting There
Grandover sits about 9 miles southwest of downtown Greensboro and roughly 15 miles from Piedmont Triad International Airport. The resort became part of the Wyndham Grand hotel brand in 2022, and it has been named one of North Carolina’s Best Golf Hotels by U.S. News and World Report and ranked the number one resort in Greensboro by TripAdvisor.
We have worked a wedding at this resort, and choosing between the Grandville Ballroom, the Grandview Ballroom, and the outdoor lawn venues changes the DJ setup considerably: the enclosed ballrooms hold sound within four walls the way any indoor banquet room does, while an outdoor lawn reception across the resort’s 1,500 acres needs equipment built for open air rather than a contained space.
