The Space
This 16-story boutique hotel opened in Uptown Charlotte in August 2020, designed around an Argentinian influence and drawing architectural inspiration from the Vienna Secession, an art movement from the late 1800s closely related to art nouveau. The property is full of high-end detail: gold and silver leafing, custom-painted murals and sculptures, ornate millwork, and Venetian hand-blown glass chandeliers throughout the public spaces.
The Palace Ballroom is the centerpiece, modeled on the Paz Palace Mansion in Buenos Aires and finished with custom Bohemian Crystal chandeliers and silver leaf cove ceilings. It measures roughly 3,912 square feet and can divide into two 1,956 square foot rooms, each able to hold 150 guests for a reception on its own, giving a couple flexibility between one large room or two smaller connected ones.
Capacity & Layout
At full size, the Palace Ballroom seats up to 300 for a reception and handles a 220-guest ceremony. Outdoors, Queen’s Terrace seats 250 for a reception and 180 for a ceremony, while the Bohemian Garden holds 250 for a reception and 200 for a ceremony. Between the ballroom and the two outdoor spaces, the hotel offers more than 16,000 square feet of indoor event space and 4,400 square feet outdoors.
That range, from a 150-guest half-ballroom up to a 300-guest full ballroom or a 250-guest outdoor terrace, means a couple can size the room to the guest list rather than the guest list to the room. Both outdoor spaces include cover, tented canopies on Queen’s Terrace and a covered Bohemian Garden, so an outdoor ceremony or reception here is not entirely at the mercy of weather. Splitting the Palace Ballroom in two also lets a couple run a ceremony in one half while the other is reset for dinner.
Amenities
The hotel includes 254 guest rooms and suites, with a complimentary room provided to the newlyweds. Check-in runs from 4pm and check-out is by 11am, worth planning around for a wedding morning that needs the room ready early. On-site catering handles custom event menus, and bar service runs through the 16th-floor Buho lounge with rooftop views, the Mico restaurant bar, and an on-site Starbucks for the morning after.
Valet parking runs $50 a day, with a $60 nightly rate for oversized vehicles, and EV charging stations are available on site. The property has an Artful Wellness fitness center along with the Spa at Grand Bohemian for massages and other treatments. The hotel is AAA Four Diamond approved and holds a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence, and it is accessible throughout, including its restaurants, fitness center, spa, and meeting spaces.
Location & Getting There
The Grand Bohemian sits in Uptown Charlotte, about 8 miles from Charlotte Douglas International Airport, putting it within the city center rather than out toward the airport corridor. As a 2020 build, it carries no historic designation of its own, but its design borrows heavily from a specific 19th century Buenos Aires mansion and an early 20th century Viennese art movement.
We have worked a wedding here, and the choice between the enclosed Palace Ballroom and the covered outdoor Queen’s Terrace or Bohemian Garden changes how a DJ sets up sound: indoors, the ballroom’s high ceilings and silver leaf finishes carry sound across a 300-guest room evenly, while an outdoor setup under the terrace’s tented canopy needs equipment built for open air rather than a sealed room.
