The Space
The Gentry Farm was founded in 2006 on 260 acres of open fields, horse trails, and hardwoods in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Originally built for family recreational use, the property later opened to the public for events. A restored barn serves as the main event facility, with a 6,500 to 7,000-square-foot interior designed specifically for weddings and receptions. The barn includes a wedding hall, a built-in saloon with a large bar, and surround sound throughout the facility and adjacent patio.
The property offers multiple ceremony options: a fenced-in outdoor lawn for traditional vows or a chapel with stained glass windows located within the barn, allowing couples to choose based on weather and aesthetic preference. An outdoor fireplace near the pavilion adds atmospheric warmth for fall and winter gatherings, and covered outdoor areas provide weather protection without requiring tent rental.
Capacity & Layout
The venue accommodates up to 400 guests for seated receptions. The barn’s 24-foot ceilings and open floor plan allow for flexible table arrangements and a spacious dance floor area. The second-story bridal quarters provide private space for the wedding party to prepare and rest throughout the day. A honeymoon cabin on the property can serve as an overnight retreat immediately after the reception, adding convenience for couples who want to stay on-site.
A fenced-in grass yard surrounds much of the property, creating clear boundaries for the event space and preventing guests from wandering into working farm areas. The large covered outdoor area and lit gathering spaces extend entertaining options beyond the barn itself, useful for cocktail hours or late-night celebration.
Amenities
On-site parking with street light posts for nightly lighting is provided, ensuring guests can safely navigate to their vehicles. Guests are welcome to bring horses and ride through the horse trails throughout the farm; on-site horse lodging is available for those who want to arrive by horseback or bring their own mounts. Tables and chairs are included as part of the venue, reducing the number of rental items needed.
Restroom facilities are built into the barn. The large bar with surround sound capabilities suggests the venue has invested in basic audio infrastructure, though confirm with the venue about what AV equipment is included in your rental package. The setting is raw and rustic, which means you bring vendors for catering and other services not provided in-house.
Location & Getting There
The farm is located on Route 58 East, 2.5 miles past Danville Regional Airport, placing it in a rural area with straightforward highway access. The drive from Greensboro, North Carolina, is about an hour south, and from Raleigh about two hours southwest. The setting is decidedly country, with working farmland surrounding the event spaces, so guests should expect a rural atmosphere and prepare accordingly for outdoor walking.
The barn’s open interior with 24-foot ceilings and the surrounding outdoor spaces respond well to a DJ setup: the high ceiling allows sound to project upward without early reflections that create muddy acoustics, the solid barn construction keeps sound contained, and the covered outdoor area can be reached with an extension speaker for ceremony or cocktail music without interference from building materials.
