The Space
Galloway National Golf Club is a private 18-hole championship golf course designed by renowned architect Tom Fazio and opened in 1995. The course was conceived by banker Vernon Hill, who was frustrated by slow play on Atlantic City region courses and decided to build his own private golf club focused solely on golf, with no housing, hotels, or swimming pools. Hill purchased a 200-acre tract of pinehills approximately ten miles north of Atlantic City. Construction began in spring 1993, with partial opening in summer 1994 and full opening on Memorial Day weekend 1995. The layout was complicated by three separate land parcels and protected coastline, resulting in several par threes playing directly along Reeds Bay marshland. The property features over 5,000 feet of frontage on Reeds Bay with dramatic natural contours, ideal soil, and lush wooded coverage. Tom Fazio stated ‘Galloway is one of my best ever’ about the design. Both Golf Digest and Golfweek rank the course in their prestigious top 100 lists, with Galloway National holding the 168th spot in Golf Digest’s Best Courses in America (2025) and 75th in Golfweek’s Best Modern Courses in America (2026).
The course measures 7,111 yards with a par of 71, a course rating of 75.5, and a slope of 147 from the championship tees. The 16th hole features a unique design shaped like the state of New Jersey, with a water hazard representing Pennsylvania.
Capacity & Layout
Galloway National is a championship golf course with 18 holes routed through pine forest and along marshland. The course is closed every Tuesday for maintenance. Eighteen holes of golf provide the central experience, with the course playing through ceremony-like isolated holes with dramatic contours. Multiple tee placements on each hole create different challenges and allow flexibility in routing groups. The heavily wooded property with over 5,000 feet of Reeds Bay frontage creates distinct aesthetics for different areas of the course. Several holes play directly along marshland, while others move deeper into pine forest. The routing through three separate land parcels creates a complex, engaging course layout.
Amenities
The championship course provides the central amenity. The private club membership structure means amenities are designed for members. Clubhouse facilities support golf operations and member services. The focus is exclusively on golf quality rather than hospitality diversification.
Location & Getting There
Galloway National Golf Club is located on 200 acres in Galloway Township, approximately ten miles north of Atlantic City, New Jersey. The course sits on property that borders Reeds Bay, a coastal marsh environment. Atlantic City and its regional airport are readily accessible. The course is heavily wooded with pines and open water hazards including Reeds Bay. The 18 holes routed through forest and marsh create an outdoor acoustic environment where sound travels over water, through pine trees, and reflects off marshland surfaces. A celebration incorporating golf course elements would need to account for outdoor sound transmission over the bay and through the natural landscape, requiring equipment placement away from major water areas and protected staging areas to maintain audio clarity in an open outdoor environment. Wind direction and weather will significantly impact sound propagation in this natural setting.
