The Space
Five Birds Farm is a 300-year-old homestead on rolling Hunterdon County farmland, preserved by its family stewards as a commitment to land conservation. The main event space is a fully restored 100-year-old barn with open-air doors and windows on all four sides, vintage chandeliers, and cooling fans. The barn defines the venue but does not contain it: the property sprawls across varied landscapes and structures. A wildflower circle in the fields serves as the ceremony space. A 1920s Copper Hill train station sits on the property (a working stop on the Black River & Western historic line), so guests can arrive by train from downtown Flemington if desired. The property also includes a carriage house, a bridal house, and a groom’s shack for getting-ready.
Rolling farmland with heirloom gardens and wildflower meadows surround the buildings. The family runs the farm using regenerative and permaculture practices, so the landscape feels alive and intentional, not manicured. Outdoor decks and grounds complete the picture: a farm that works and a space that breathes.
Capacity & Layout
The event barn holds between 10 and 65 seated guests in banquet style, or 1 to 195 standing, depending on layout. Total property capacity is 250 guests. The barn is 1,800 square feet, a generous space for intimate gatherings or mid-sized receptions. The wildflower circle accommodates ceremonies. Parking includes spaces for 65 cars, with off-site parking and coordinated shuttle available for larger crowds. All facilities are wheelchair accessible, with ramps at main and side entrances and hearing-impaired fire alarm lights throughout.
The venue operates seasonally from April through October, so planning must align with that window. The barn’s open-air doors and windows mean weather is part of the experience: breeze, light, and air flow through the space naturally.
Amenities
The barn is fully restored with vintage chandeliers and cooling fans. A built-in cocktail bar is included. The bridal house and groom’s shack provide private getting-ready space. Tables, linens, and basic furnishings are available. The farm operates with its own regenerative practices, so couples are supporting an active agricultural operation and conservation effort, not just renting a static space. Accommodations on the property include a renovated 1930s Sears and Roebuck catalog kit house (a piece of Americana), plus the bridal house and groom’s shack. The Black River & Western train access from Flemington (about 10 minutes away) is unique in the region and adds novelty to guest arrival.
Location & Getting There
Ringoes sits in Hunterdon County, one hour from both New York City and Philadelphia. The setting is rural New Jersey farmland, with rolling fields and woods. The drive from the metro areas runs 60 minutes on regional roads. The 1920s train station connects to historic rail service, giving guests a rail option if they prefer the journey to be part of the experience. Flemington (the nearest town with shops and services) is close enough for rehearsal dinners or day-after gatherings. The barn’s open design with doors and windows on all sides, combined with the open-air ceremony space, means that sound travels across the property and benefits from the natural acoustics of the farmland: open fields, gentle slopes, and the barn’s timber frame all shape how music and voices carry during receptions.
