The property was given to the community by Fox Companies, the developer of Chesterbrook, and Duportail House Inc was formed in 1983 to preserve the farmhouse and the 1792 Federal Barn that stands beside it. The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and today a volunteer Board of Directors runs it as a nonprofit rather than as a commercial venue business.

The three-acre grounds carry that same age throughout: stone walls, fireplaces, and a front porch on the main house, with the Federal Barn offering a second, separate structure for ceremonies or cocktails. Since 1985 the property has run as a community center hosting civic association meetings, historic lectures, corporate picnics, and weddings, so it is a working historic site as much as a rental venue, and a couple touring it is walking through rooms still in regular use by the local community.

The property holds up to 160 guests, a number that shapes whether a couple leans on just the farmhouse’s first floor and barn or spreads the day across the grounds as well. An upstairs bridal suite in the farmhouse gives the wedding party a private spot to get ready before the ceremony starts, which keeps that part of the morning contained to one building even as the rest of the day spreads across the property.

Parking is complimentary and the property is wheelchair accessible, two details that keep the logistics simple for a venue built on three centuries of history rather than a modern layout. A volunteer Board of Directors oversees the property, reflecting its status as a preserved community landmark rather than a commercial event company, which also means the venue’s character has been shaped by preservation rather than by renovation for event-hosting alone.

The venue is open to the public on Sundays from 1pm to 3pm for viewing, which is worth knowing if a couple wants to walk the grounds again before booking. Rentals run year-round, so the stone walls and fireplaces that read as cozy in December work just as well as a backdrop for a summer reception, and a couple choosing a colder date can lean on those fireplaces rather than treating winter as a drawback.

A noise curfew applies, with events running until midnight on Friday and Saturday and until 10pm Sunday through Thursday, which sets the natural end point for the reception regardless of the room.
