The Space

Doug met Karen at his son’s thirtieth birthday party in 2007, and that meeting eventually led to this 27-acre venue and vineyard outside Denver, North Carolina, opened in 2021. Doug had spent years before that running a pump and irrigation company in Washington State, installing systems for vineyards including Columbia Crest Winery, Hogue Cellars, and Red Mountain Wine Estates, before moving to North Carolina in 2004 and eventually turning that background into a working vineyard of his own.

The property sits near Highway 16 between Highways 150 and 73, within reach of Charlotte, Hickory, Lincolnton, and Lake Norman. Its centerpiece is a preserved fireplace at the Pavilion, salvaged from an original home built on the property in the 1800s, and the Winery’s entrance doors came from an old home in Savannah, Georgia, so the buildings carry pieces of other places even though the vineyard around them is new.

Capacity & Layout

The Venue, the property’s main reception building, is 4,000 square feet and climate-controlled, rated to hold up to 200 guests, which is the number to plan a floor layout against for the reception itself. That capacity puts a mid-size wedding comfortably inside with room for a dance floor and a DJ setup without crowding the room.

A separate 4,000-square-foot building called The Parlour houses a Bride’s Room and Groom’s Room, each with a private restroom and dry bar, plus a prep kitchen, so the wedding party has dedicated space to get ready without competing with vendors setting up The Venue next door. The Winery adds a third building, 2,000 square feet with indoor and outdoor bar seating, a wine tasting room, and a wine bar, useful for a cocktail hour separate from the main reception.

Amenities

Ceremony options run both indoor and outdoor, including a setup at the Pavilion’s grand stone fireplace and windows overlooking the working vineyard, so a couple can hold the ceremony with a vineyard backdrop and move guests to The Venue for the reception without leaving the property. A covered veranda and space set aside for food trucks give a couple flexibility on catering beyond a traditional plated dinner.

The property is ADA compliant, with a climate-controlled main space and a prep kitchen for catering staff to work from on site. Parking is plentiful, and an undercover drop-off area means the wedding party and older guests are not walking across an open lot in bad weather. In 2023 the vineyard itself expanded with 1,700 new vines planted with community volunteers, part of an ongoing Phase II the property continues to grow into.

Denver, North Carolina sits within reach of Charlotte, Hickory, and Lincolnton, and close to Lake Norman, giving a couple’s out-of-town guests lake-area lodging and things to do around the wedding date. The Highway 16 location, between Highways 150 and 73, keeps the drive simple for guests coming from any of those directions rather than requiring a single approach route.
