The Space

Domaine Pterion is a 60-acre winery and event venue on South Mountain in Macungie, Pennsylvania. The property has an extraordinary history: first deeded in 1740 and operated as a family farm ever since. The farm’s bank barn dates to circa 1780 and was among the first land deeded by William Penn himself. Daniel and Elizabeth O’Rourke purchased the farm in 2014 and spent eight years restoring the historic barn and grounds, opening Domaine Pterion to the public in 2022. The property now features a 15.7-acre vineyard with 22,000 grapevines producing estate-grown, dry, European-style wines, all harvested and fermented on site.

The Grand Barnroom is the heart of the venue: a restored 1780s bank barn with a dramatic 40-foot timbered ceiling and two crystal chandeliers. The barn has been transformed into an elegant reception space while retaining its historic character and soaring timber work. The property includes multiple outdoor ceremony sites across the lawn, patio, and vineyard, plus two unique dressing suites, a covered patio, and indoor and outdoor spaces for every part of a wedding day.

Domaine Pterion seats 160 guests and accommodates 175 standing. The Grand Barnroom is the primary reception space, with the 40-foot ceiling and chandeliers creating an open, elegant atmosphere. Indoor spaces for ceremony are available, as are multiple outdoor ceremony options across the vineyard-studded grounds. The property’s rolling hillsides and spring-fed ponds provide natural focal points for ceremony backdrops and photos.

The scale is refined and not overwhelming, giving couples a full event experience without the industrial feel of very large venues. The mix of indoor and outdoor options means weather can be accommodated without canceling or significantly changing plans, and the vineyard setting provides constant scenic beauty regardless of which spaces are used.

Domaine Pterion includes a full licensed commercial kitchen on-site, providing flexible catering options. Climate control is throughout all indoor spaces, and both the Grand Barnroom and covered patio spaces are fully supported by modern utilities. The property offers 52 paved parking spaces with overflow parking on grass, and buses and shuttles are welcome. Two unique dressing suites are available for the wedding party, and the entire property is ADA-accessible, including wheelchair-accessible entrances, parking, restrooms, and seating.

The on-site winery produces estate wines sold exclusively on-premises, so couples can feature Domaine Pterion’s own products as part of the reception. The full kitchen and bar infrastructure mean most catering and beverage needs are in-house, simplifying vendor coordination.

Domaine Pterion sits on South Mountain in Macungie, Pennsylvania, in the Lehigh Valley region between Allentown and the Pennsylvania Dutch Country. The Lehigh Valley is about 90 minutes north of Philadelphia and roughly an hour and a half south of New York City. The property is on a hilltop with rolling views, creating a sense of elevation and escape despite proximity to urban centers. The nearest airport is Lehigh Valley International Airport (ABE), about 20 minutes away.

The Grand Barnroom is an interior space with a 40-foot ceiling, timber beams, chandeliers, and hard surfaces (wood, stone). The open height and exposed structure will allow sound to travel and reflect off the timbered ceiling and walls, creating natural resonance. A DJ booth positioned along one side of the room will broadcast well to all corners, and the high ceiling means sound will project upward as well as outward, filling the space effectively. Outdoor ceremony sites and patios will have open-air acoustics, with sound dispersing naturally across the vineyard grounds.
