The Space
Delegal Creek Marina sits at the southernmost end of Skidaway Island, right where the Intracoastal Waterway passes mile marker 601 near Ossabaw Sound. Local boaters built it in the 1980s as a safe place to keep their boats, and it still reads that way: a working marina rather than a resort, with a rustic two story lookout tower rising over the heart of the docks and giving anyone standing on it a full view of the waterway in both directions.
The marina has been rebuilt more than once. A 2012 renovation added a new fuel dock, a ship’s store, and new docks and pilings, and then Hurricane Matthew destroyed seventy percent of the facilities in October of 2016, with the National Weather Service measuring three to nearly four feet of inundation along Delegal Creek during the storm. It took about two years to bring the marina back, so what stands today is a rebuilt, current facility rather than an aging original.
Capacity & Layout
The marina holds between fifty seven and sixty nine wet slips, depending on the source, and can accommodate vessels up to one hundred twenty five feet. Access is tide dependent: boats drawing up to three and a half feet can come and go around the clock, while boats drawing up to nine feet need to time their approach to mid tide, which is the kind of detail that shapes how and when a waterfront gathering here actually comes together.
The lookout tower at the center of the docks is the one clear vertical point on an otherwise low, spread out waterfront layout, and the ship’s store and fuel dock anchor the shoreside end of the property. Anyone planning an event around the marina is really working with a linear stretch of docks and a shoreside building, not a single enclosed room, so the layout favors an open air gathering along the water over an indoor reception.
Amenities
Onsite amenities run toward what boaters need day to day: restrooms, showers, electrical service at the docks, fresh water, parking, security cameras, and a ship’s store stocked with fuel, ice, drinks, bait, and other basics. Diesel and gasoline are both available at the fuel dock, and the marina also offers maintenance and repair services, so it functions as a full service stop rather than just a place to tie up for the night.
Transient boaters get a courtesy golf cart and access to The Landings Club’s amenities, including dining, tennis, pool, and golf privileges, which extends the marina’s own footprint into the surrounding Landings community. The facility is also pet friendly and keeps regular hours of nine in the morning to five in the evening daily, which is worth knowing when timing any gathering or pickup around the marina’s own operating schedule.
Location & Getting There
The marina sits about twenty five minutes, roughly twelve miles, south of downtown Savannah’s historic district, on the southern tip of Skidaway Island where it meets the Intracoastal Waterway. That puts it close enough for Savannah based guests to reach easily by car while still feeling like a genuine departure from the city, out where the waterway opens toward Ossabaw Sound and the marsh takes over from downtown streets.
Parking is available onsite, and guests arriving from the water rather than the road will find the docks and check in area within yards of each other near the base of the lookout tower. Because the whole property is open air along the docks, with covered space limited to the shoreside buildings, a DJ working an event here is setting up for an outdoor waterfront sound environment, running speakers against open water and wind rather than the contained acoustics of an indoor hall.
