The Space
Darlington Country Club was founded in 1926 and is marking its centennial in 2026, set along Black Creek with an 18-hole John LaFoy course that plays 6,342 yards at par 72, with the creek coming into play on six holes. The clubhouse has been through recent work: Richard Mandell Golf Architecture redesigned holes 15 through 17, finishing in August 2024, deliberately moving the course back toward its original 1926 character rather than modernizing it away from that history.
The main ballroom runs 2,926 square feet with panoramic views out over the golf course, and it is open to both members and non-members booking events, which is worth knowing at a private club where that is not always the case. Smaller gatherings have other options on property: the Yellow Room seats up to 44 guests around its own fireplace with a view of the 12th green, and Michael’s Porch is an outdoor dining and dance area overlooking the back nine, named in memory of Michael Dean Sigmon.
Capacity & Layout
The ballroom seats up to 342 guests, and the club’s total event capacity runs from 50 to 400 depending on how the spaces are combined, which covers everything from an intimate wedding to a large one without a couple needing to look elsewhere. Ceremony sites include the clubhouse steps, the ballroom itself, the upstairs dining room, a private meeting room for up to 68, the Yellow Room, Michael’s Porch, or the golf course, giving a couple real choice in where they say vows.
The ballroom includes an expanded stage area with ample room for entertainment, and a dance floor is set up both there and on Michael’s Porch, so a couple is not choosing between an indoor reception with a stage and an outdoor one with a view of the back nine: they can plan cocktail hour on the porch and move the dancing indoors, or the reverse, depending on the season and the weather.
Amenities
Catering runs through the club’s own Black Creek Grill and Bar, and the Red Bar adds a second beverage option alongside it, so food and drink service is handled in-house rather than coordinated with an outside vendor. The club also provides its own tables, chairs, and tablecloths, which takes a significant rental line item off a couple’s budget compared with a venue that requires bringing all of that in separately.
Beyond the wedding day itself, the club’s amenities include the 18-hole golf course, a newly renovated Olympic-sized pool open Memorial Day through Labor Day, and professionally renovated tennis and pickleball courts, useful for a wedding weekend where out-of-town guests arrive a day early. Locker rooms are ADA compliant with rain showers and spray body massagers, and the pool has accessible entry and exit by way of a chair lift.
Location & Getting There
Darlington Country Club sits about 12 miles from Florence, South Carolina, keeping it within reach of a regional airport and hotels for out-of-town guests while the club itself stays a quieter, creek-side property rather than an in-town venue. The club has hosted the Southern 500 Golf Invitational, one of the longest-running amateur tournaments in the state, which speaks to how long this has been a working golf and event property rather than a recent addition.
With reception space split between an indoor ballroom built with its own stage for entertainment and an outdoor option on Michael’s Porch overlooking the back nine, a DJ setting up here needs to know which room a couple has chosen: the ballroom’s stage and four walls hold and direct sound the way an indoor room does, while Michael’s Porch, open to the golf course, calls for a system built to carry into open air instead.
