The Space

Curtis Hall began in 1893 as a music ballroom on the country estate of publishing magnate Cyrus Curtis, and the building carries that history into the present as a restored event space listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In 2017, Jeffrey A. Miller Catering partnered with Cheltenham Township to restore the hall, and the work included hand-painted period murals on all four interior walls, so the room a couple stands in today is dressed to match its original era rather than stripped down to a blank rental hall.

The hall sits inside the 45-acre Curtis Arboretum, landscaped in stages by horticulturist Thomas Meehan in the 1880s and later by the Olmsted Brothers in the late 1930s, and now home to over 50 varieties of trees, rolling lawns, and two ponds. The grounds are managed by Cheltenham Township as public greenspace, which means the arboretum a couple’s guests walk through for photos is a real, maintained public garden rather than a private backdrop built for weddings alone.

Capacity & Layout

Curtis Hall seats up to 200 guests, which sets the practical ceiling for a couple’s guest list if the reception stays inside the historic room. An adjacent paving-stone courtyard is covered by a climate-controlled clear-top tent, available seasonally from March through November, giving a couple the option to spread cocktail hour or additional seating outside the hall itself without leaving the weather to chance.

The property offers dual private suites for both members of the couple to get ready separately before the ceremony, which simplifies the timeline on a day when hair, makeup, and photos are all competing for the same few hours. Outdoor ceremony options on the grounds mean a couple is not locked into holding the ceremony inside the hall, and can use the arboretum’s lawns instead.

Catering is full-service and handled on site with all necessary staff, so the couple is working with one team that also runs the room rather than coordinating an outside caterer around the venue’s own schedule. Parking is plentiful on site and includes handicapped-accessible spots, and the property overall is ADA-compliant, which matters on grounds this size where guests may be walking between the hall, the courtyard, and outdoor ceremony areas.

Climate control runs through both the indoor hall, which is air conditioned, and the tented courtyard, which is climate-controlled for its March-through-November season, so temperature is managed whether a couple’s guests are inside the historic room or under the tent outside. The grounds themselves add an original pergola, a dog park, and rolling lawns beyond the two ponds, useful if a couple wants photos away from the hall itself.
