The Space

Colonel Francis J. Beatty Park is a 270-acre public county park that opened to the public in spring 1999 in Southeastern Mecklenburg County, just south of Charlotte. The park was developed by DPR Associates, Inc., with specialists from UNC-Charlotte contributing to environmental analysis and coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for wetlands management. The park features a 17-acre man-made lake as its centerpiece, surrounded by sports fields, trails, and carefully developed recreation areas. More than 50 percent of the acreage remains undeveloped for natural preservation, giving the park a spacious, uncluttered feeling despite its extensive amenities.

Lake Pointe Hall is the indoor event facility, designed with lakeside views so your celebration benefits from the water landscape. The surrounding 270 acres provide ceremony spaces, photo opportunities, and recreational outlets. An outdoor arbor or pagoda by the lake offers a natural ceremony backdrop with water and landscape as your setting. The park was named in honor of Colonel Francis Joseph Beatty, a military officer and cotton industry executive born in 1893 who served in the Mexican Border War, World War I, and World War II.

Lake Pointe Hall accommodates up to 120 guests depending on room setup and configuration, ranging from 79 to 120 depending on table arrangement and event style. The hall provides a contained, comfortable indoor space while the broader park offers multiple ceremony and photo areas. Five lighted soccer fields, two softball fields, six tennis courts, and four horseshoe pits spread across the grounds, along with 4.8 miles of walking trails and eight miles of mountain biking trails with green, blue, and black difficulty levels.

The park’s scale and design allow guests to use different areas for different parts of your celebration: the lake area for a ceremony, Lake Pointe Hall for reception and dining, and surrounding outdoor spaces for photos and family activities. Fishing, kayaking, and canoe rentals are available on the lake, adding recreational options for guests beyond the reception. It feels like having a private park rather than a single building venue.

Lake Pointe Hall includes a full-service kitchen equipped for meal preparation and service, bathrooms, a grill, and tables and chairs provided. Rental is available for up to five hours with additional hours available at $60 per hour, making extended celebrations affordable. The park provides multiple picnic shelters and areas throughout the 270 acres, both indoor and outdoor options for staging different activities or breakout areas for various celebration functions.

Parking is abundant with multiple lots throughout the park, ensuring guests can find convenient parking regardless of which area they’re visiting. Fishing, kayaking, and canoe rentals are available on the lake, adding options for guest activities beyond the reception. The park is managed by Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation, making it a well-maintained, professionally managed facility with reliable infrastructure and services.
