The Space
Long before its Uptown Charlotte address, this restaurant’s roots trace to Uberlandia, Brazil, in the state of Minas Gerais, before the Silva family brought the Chima concept to Fort Lauderdale in 2004. The restaurant takes its name from chimarrao, a traditional drink of Rio Grande do Sul that stands for hospitality and friendship, and that gaucho tradition still shapes the room: rotisserie meats carried tableside by servers who move continuously through the dining floor.
The Charlotte location sits on South Tryon Street in the heart of Uptown, a few blocks from the Belk Theater, the Overstreet Mall, and the Spectrum Center, with an upstairs lounge that looks out over the Charlotte skyline. A couple choosing Chima is choosing a downtown skyline setting over a rural or garden one, with the city itself as the backdrop.
Capacity & Layout
Private dining rooms handle anywhere from 30 to 200 seated guests, a cocktail-style reception can run up to 300, and a full buyout of the restaurant tops out at 320 seated, which gives a couple real room to scale a wedding up or down without switching venues. VIP rooms come with complimentary A/V equipment, including wireless microphones and a 90-inch screen.
That built-in A/V setup means a couple planning toasts, a slideshow, or a first-look video does not need to rent a screen and projector separately, since the VIP rooms are already wired for it. The upstairs lounge gives a smaller wedding party a distinct space for cocktails apart from the main dining floor.
Amenities
Full rodizio service brings over 15 rotisserie meats to the table, alongside a gourmet salad bar, so the meal itself is part of the entertainment rather than a plated course that arrives and disappears. A full liquor bar with wines and champagnes from around the world covers drink service for the reception.
Valet parking is available for $21, and the restaurant sits two blocks from the Light Rail, which gives out-of-town guests staying downtown an easy way to reach the wedding without needing their own car. The upstairs lounge, with its skyline view, works well for cocktail hour before guests move down to the main dining floor. Dinner service runs 5:30 to 9pm Monday through Thursday, 5:30 to 10pm Friday, 4:30 to 10pm Saturday, and 4 to 8pm Sunday, with lunch added Friday through Sunday from noon to 3pm, giving a couple real flexibility on whether to plan a daytime or evening event.
Location & Getting There
Chima sits in the middle of Uptown Charlotte, within walking distance of downtown hotels and the city’s core entertainment venues, so guests staying downtown for the wedding weekend can walk to dinner rather than driving across the city. That location also makes it a natural fit for a couple who wants their wedding to feel like a night out in the city.
The main dining room and private dining rooms are enclosed indoor spaces with hard architectural surfaces typical of an upscale restaurant, so a DJ working a reception here is setting up for a contained room where a moderate system carries cleanly through dinner, toasts, and dancing without needing to cover open-air distance or compete with wind and traffic noise.
