The Space

The Hideaway occupies the Broadway Arts Building in downtown Asheville, a brick commercial structure that opened February 19, 1928, with an Art Deco facade still on the front of the building. The National Register-listed building sits inside the Downtown Asheville Historic District, and Celine and Company Catering, which has operated in Asheville since Celine and Michael Lurey founded it in March 1993, now runs the event space inside it. The business passed to chef Kim Lloyd, but the address and the building’s history stayed the same.

Before it held weddings, the building carried other lives: the second level once housed a church, and the basement was The Green Door, a performance art space with its own entrance on Carolina Lane.
