This oceanfront property known as the Dream was built in 1996 and sits perched 21 feet up on Penny’s Hill, the second-largest sand dune in North Carolina, in the 4×4 area north of Corolla accessible only by four-wheel drive vehicle. The home spans 10,200 square feet on 1.96 acres. The property is approximately 2.3 miles up the beach from Corolla proper. Penny’s Hill has minimal vegetation and remains a living dune, constantly shaped by the powerful coastal winds of the Outer Banks. Historically, the hamlet of Seagull existed at the base of Penny’s Hill, but has been completely buried by the dune’s migration over time. The 1962 Ash Wednesday storm marked the final destruction of that settlement.

The elevated position on a sand dune means dramatic ocean views and a sense of exposure to the Atlantic. The house is surrounded by open dune landscape, without close neighbors. The hard access, four-wheel drive only, means guests arrive ready for an adventure and a sense of seclusion.

Capacity & Layout

The home sleeps 36 people and can accommodate special events for up to 125 guests. It features 17 bedrooms and 12 full plus 2 half bathrooms. The Grand Master King Master wedding suite occupies 1,000 square feet on the top level with dual sinks, a soaker tub, and a shower with 9 shower heads. A newly redone theater room on the ground level has 3 tiers of seating for 19 people. The dining area seats 42. An elevated deck functions as a special event area with cornhole boards and a screened bar area. A fully enclosed private pool and hot tub area with a patio includes two gas grills and poolside bathrooms.

The multi-level layout spreads the home’s entertaining spaces vertically, with ceremony space on decks or the elevated event lawn, cocktails and gathering in various rooms, and dancing and dining using the open great room and adjoining spaces. Overnight accommodation for the entire wedding party is possible.

Amenities

The home includes a 14 x 30 foot private heated pool (heating available for $500 weekly) and a hot tub in the enclosed pool area. A baby grand player piano adds entertainment, and a brand-new theater room with upgraded 2026 finishes includes tiered seating. The kitchen is outfitted for catering with 2 cooktops, 3 ovens, 3 dishwashers, 4 full-size refrigerators, a full-size freezer, and a commercial icemaker. Recreation includes pool table and foosball. A private walkway to the beach was added for 2026. Guests have access to two four-wheel drive beach parking passes for vehicle use during their stay. Full-week rentals only.
