The Space

Two hundred fifty acres next to Lake Brandt make up Bur-Mil Park, a Guilford County park that started in 1989 when the county bought the former Burlington Industries recreation facility and turned it over to Greensboro Parks and Recreation to run. The clubhouse, a 10,565-square-foot Meeting & Events Center, is the part of the park built for rentals, and it operates on its own schedule, Monday through Sunday, 8am to midnight.

Beyond the clubhouse, the grounds carry a nine-hole Par 3 golf course, a driving range, four outdoor picnic shelters, tennis and pickleball courts, an aquatic center, and two stocked fishing ponds, so a wedding here can lean on a full county park rather than a single building. Two of the picnic shelters sit near the aquatic center and two sit near the clubhouse itself, which gives a couple options for where the day actually happens.

Capacity & Layout

The clubhouse seats up to 500, a genuinely large number for a park rental and enough to cover most wedding guest lists without needing to split the party across rooms. Parking runs 493 spaces on site with another 100 at an adjacent lot, so even a full 500-guest event has room to park without overflow onto surrounding streets.

With the golf course, driving range, and Family Tennis & Pickleball Center all part of the same property, the layout favors a couple who wants guests to actually use the grounds, not just pass through a hall. The four picnic shelters offer a lower-key option for a smaller gathering, split between the pair near the aquatic center and the pair near the clubhouse.

Amenities

The park’s amenities run well past a standard event space: a lighted nine-hole Par 3 course open year-round, a 250-yard driving range with 20 mat positions, an aquatic center with diving boards and a beach-entry pool, and two fishing ponds stocked with bass, catfish, bream, and sunfish. The golf shop and driving range run daily from 9am to 8pm, May through September, and the Wildlife Education Center opens weekends in that same season, 9am to 7pm.

The park itself is open 8am to 8pm daily, closed only on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and New Year’s Day, so a wedding date has a wide seasonal window to work with, though anyone planning around the golf course or aquatic center should note those run seasonally rather than year-round. The Atlantic-Yadkin Greenway trail runs through the property, crossing Lake Brandt on the H. Michael Weaver Bridge toward Guilford Courthouse National Military Park.

Location & Getting There

Bur-Mil Park sits about 9 miles from downtown Greensboro and about the same distance from Greensboro-Guilford Megaport International Airport, a short, direct drive for guests flying in or coming from the city center. The lake and the wooded acreage around it put the park well away from downtown traffic, so the drive out feels like leaving the city rather than crossing a few more blocks of it.

Inside the 10,565-square-foot clubhouse, a reception plays out in a genuine meeting and events room rather than an open pavilion, so a DJ setup runs with real walls to work with, the sound staying contained to the room instead of drifting out across the lake and the surrounding golf course the way an outdoor picnic shelter event would.
