The Space
Jay and Joan Gerish bought this land on top of Point Mountain back in 1978 as a family getaway and a place to train horses, long before anyone thought of it as a wedding venue. The farm stayed in the family that way for decades, and when it opened for weddings in 2016 it kept its working character rather than trading it in for a manicured look. The Gerish family, now four children and seven grandchildren deep, still maintains the 130 acres as a functioning farm today.
That working-farm identity shows up everywhere a couple looks. The property is home to close to 30 cows, a dozen sheep, two donkeys, and chickens, none of which are raised for market, plus two ponds, an orchard, and open fields across the mountaintop. The land also serves as an outdoor classroom for students at New Beginnings, a special needs school, which says something about how the Gerishs think about the place beyond its use as a venue.
Capacity & Layout
The main reception tent measures 40 feet by 100 feet, a clear-top structure with carpet flooring and a chandelier hanging over an interior lit by strings of Edison bulbs. Inside it, the dance floor is 28 by 18 feet, and the tent itself holds up to 20 round tables with 240 white resin folding chairs, which sets the practical ceiling for a seated reception here. A second tent, 20 by 40 feet, is available for cocktail hour or as a separate lounge area away from the main room.
Both tents come with removable side walls that can be deployed if weather turns, which matters on a mountaintop where conditions can shift faster than in a valley. Ceremony sites are spread across an oak grove, a wildflower meadow, and an arbor, with pond areas and views out over the Appalachian Mountains, so a couple has real choices for where vows happen rather than one fixed spot near the tent.
Amenities
Outside catering is permitted, meaning couples bring in their own caterer rather than working from a house kitchen, and the venue supplies a vintage horse trailer bar plus a wine barrel bar for cocktail hour. A fire pit area gives guests somewhere to gather as the night winds down, and golf cart service is provided to move people across the property’s rolling terrain, which is worth knowing given the size of the grounds and the mountaintop elevation.
For weddings over 75 guests the venue brings in a bathroom trailer, a detail that matters at a property without the fixed infrastructure of an indoor hall. Get-ready space is available as part of the Dorothy package, opening five hours ahead of the ceremony, so a wedding party is not racing the clock to be dressed and ready before guests arrive.
Location & Getting There
Born to Run Farm sits atop Point Mountain in Glen Gardner, in the Schooley’s Mountain area of Hunterdon County, a genuine drive-up-the-mountain kind of arrival that sets expectations before a guest ever reaches the tent line. The venue does allow outside vendors generally, and keeps a preferred vendor list on hand for couples who would rather choose from names the Gerishs already trust than start a search from scratch.
The setting is entirely outdoors and entirely tented, which means a DJ setup answers to open air and canvas rather than four walls: sound spreads outward with nothing to bounce it back, so coverage across a 40-by-100 tent depends on positioning speakers to reach the dance floor without needing to fight the open sides.
