The Space
Borgata sits on the marina side of Atlantic City, a resort built at a scale most couples have not encountered before booking a reception here. It opened July 2, 2003, as a joint venture between MGM Mirage and Boyd Gaming, and was the first new casino resort the city had seen in thirteen years. The property is now the largest hotel in New Jersey, with 2,798 rooms split between the Main Tower and the MGM Tower, so a wedding here is rarely a single-room event. It is also, notably, the top-grossing casino in Atlantic City.
Two very different rooms anchor a wedding at Borgata. The Overlook sits on the 32nd floor of the MGM Tower, an 18,000-square-foot space converted from the former spa during a $55 million renovation completed in 2023, and it gives couples panoramic views over the city and inlet. For larger receptions, the Borgata Ballroom is a 30,000-square-foot column-free room that can be configured out of the adjoining Event Center, so nothing interrupts sightlines to the head table or the dance floor.
Capacity & Layout
The numbers involved matter for planning a floor plan. The Event Center accommodates up to 3,200 guests theatre-style or 1,700 for a seated banquet, and the Central Conference Center adds another 26,000 square feet across a boardroom and five separate meeting rooms if a couple wants a rehearsal dinner or a smaller gathering set apart from the main event. That range means Borgata can comfortably host an intimate ceremony and a five-hundred-guest reception under the same roof without either one feeling like an afterthought.
At the other end of the scale, The Overlook holds up to 150 guests, which suits couples who want the skyline as a backdrop rather than a crowd to fill it. For an outdoor option, Borgata Festival Park opened in 2015 as a 50,000-square-foot venue with room for 4,500 people, giving warm-weather couples a genuinely open-air alternative to the hotel’s interior spaces, weather and season permitting.
Amenities
On-property dining runs to seventeen restaurants, including Old Homestead Steakhouse, Bobby Flay Steak, and Wolfgang Puck American Grille, which matters for a rehearsal dinner or a welcome party that a couple wants to keep inside the same complex as the wedding itself. Bar options span from the casino-floor B Bar to the Beer Garden, Level One Cocktail Bar, and the Lobby Bar, so a cocktail hour has somewhere purpose-built to happen before guests move into the reception room.
With 2,798 rooms across the two towers, out-of-town guests can be housed on site rather than shuttled in from off-property hotels, which simplifies a wedding weekend considerably. Self parking runs $10 and valet $15 per stay, and the property carries accessible rooms, accessible parking, and wheelchair-friendly facilities throughout, which is worth knowing before finalizing a guest list that includes anyone with mobility needs.
Location & Getting There
Borgata sits in Atlantic City’s marina district, with the Main Tower’s reflective gold glass facade visible for miles and acting as a landmark for arriving guests. Atlantic City International Airport is about 12 miles away for out-of-town family, and Philadelphia is roughly 66 miles out for a day-trip crowd, close enough for a sizable Philadelphia contingent to make the trip without booking a hotel room.
We have worked a wedding in the Ballroom, and the column-free 30,000-square-foot room with its high ceiling gives a DJ setup real headroom for sound and lighting truss, while the Overlook’s floor-to-ceiling glass and harder surfaces call for a tighter, more directional speaker placement to keep the room from getting bright.
