The Space
Bluestone Country Club started out in 1949 as Meadowlands Country Club, founded under the direction of Philadelphia attorney Sylvan M. Cohen. The name changed to Bluestone after the club was sold in 2016, but the golf course underneath it is the same one that opened in 1950, designed by William and David Gordon along with Tom Clark. A wedding here sits on top of more than seventy years of continuous club history rather than a recently built event space.
The event space itself is a restored manor home, called The Country House, set apart from the golf operation but still on club grounds. In June 2007, back when it was still Meadowlands, the club became the first private country club in the country to open its membership to military families, a detail that says something about the kind of place it has been for its members long before it hosted its first wedding.
Capacity & Layout
The Country House accommodates anywhere from 12 to 320 guests, which is a wide enough range to cover an intimate ceremony for close family or a full reception with a large extended guest list and a dance floor to match. That flexibility matters for a couple who is not sure yet how big their day will end up being, since the same manor home can be set up either way without needing a different building.
In 2007, the club’s Championship Course served as a qualifying venue for the U.S. Amateur, which places the golf side of the property at a competitive level most private clubs never reach. For a couple building a golf-course wedding, that pedigree is part of the backdrop, even if the ceremony and reception themselves happen inside the restored manor home rather than out on the course.
Amenities
Parking is close to the front door, which is a small thing until a couple is trying to get grandparents, a florist’s van, and a DJ’s gear into a building at the same time on a wedding day. An 18-hole private golf course surrounds the manor home, giving guests staying through the afternoon somewhere to walk or watch a few holes before the reception starts.
The manor home itself is described as restored rather than newly built, which tends to mean details like moldings, staircases, and room proportions that a from-scratch event hall does not have. Beyond the building and the course, the material available on Bluestone does not go into specific room names or built-in features, so this is what can be said honestly about what the property offers a wedding.
Location & Getting There
Bluestone Country Club is in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania, a private club setting rather than a public event space, which generally means a quieter, members-only feel for the day even when it is booked out for a wedding. The club’s roots go back to 1949, which is long enough that generations of the same Philadelphia-area families have likely belonged to it before it ever became a wedding venue.
Because the reception runs inside The Country House rather than a large open-air pavilion, a DJ setup in the manor home behaves like a setup in any well-built older house: sound stays inside defined rooms instead of spreading across an open lawn, so the system gets positioned to cover the dance floor without overpowering a space built for conversation as much as for dancing.
