The Space

Bermuda Run Country Club opened in 1971, built on 690 acres that developer Bill Satterfield purchased from the Haywood and Lybrook family estates for $1,000 an acre. Satterfield designed and developed the golf course in just over a year, and Arnold Palmer took part in the club’s first lot drawing in the summer of 1971. Before it became a golf club, the land had been home to Ariston Farm, built by David and China Lybrook in the 1920s, a name the club’s dining venue Ariston’s still carries.

Today the property runs two clubhouses with three distinct dining venues, Mulligan’s, Bar 37, and Ariston’s, plus a ballroom used for weddings and other events. The East Course plays on Champion Bermuda greens and the West Course on Bentgrass, a difference that keeps the greens in playable condition across more of the year and, for a wedding, means the surrounding turf stays green and maintained whatever the season.

Capacity & Layout

A wedding here typically splits between the outdoor ceremony lawn and the ballroom, which is finished with picture-window views out over the grounds rather than a windowless interior. That layout lets a couple hold vows outside and move guests indoors for a reception without needing a tent or a separate rental structure for either half of the day.

Beyond the ceremony lawn and ballroom, the property has enough separate amenity space, tennis and pickleball courts, two golf courses, and a full pool complex, that a wedding weekend can spread across more than one day without guests running out of things to do between events. Non-members are welcome to book weddings here, and rehearsals are included with the event package, which simplifies the walk-through before the actual day.

Amenities

The club’s in-house culinary team builds custom menus for events, and full beverage service runs through Bar 37 and Mulligan’s, so catering and bar service are handled without an outside vendor. Four Har-Tru tennis courts, one hard court, and three dedicated pickleball courts give a wedding weekend built-in daytime activity for guests staying nearby, which matters for a destination-style wedding rather than a single-evening booking.

The pool complex, Olympic-size with dedicated lap lanes, a lazy river, a double waterslide, and a children’s pool, is more a rehearsal-weekend amenity than a wedding-day one, but it is part of why out-of-town guests can treat a Bermuda Run wedding as a short vacation rather than a drive-in-and-leave event. The club also hosted the Crosby National Celebrity Golf Tournament from 1986 to 2001, which raised more than $18 million for charity during its run here.

Location & Getting There

Bermuda Run sits near Winston-Salem, developed across 690 acres that were farmland before Satterfield built the course, and the neighborhood still carries that scale: wide fairways and open grounds rather than a tight subdivision lot. The ballroom’s picture windows keep that openness visible from inside the reception, so guests are not shut off from the grounds once they move indoors.

With the ceremony held on the open lawn and the reception in the enclosed ballroom, a DJ’s setup moves from open air, where sound needs to project across the lawn without walls to hold it, into the ballroom’s finished interior, where the picture windows and enclosed ceiling contain the music for dinner and dancing in a way the lawn cannot.
