The Space
Bentwinds began in 1977 when 266 members of the old Sippahaw Country Club voted to buy land outside Fuquay Varina, purchasing 350 acres from WDS Farms. The golf course and pro shop opened by 1980, with the pool and tennis courts under construction at the same time, and the club took its current name, Bentwinds Golf & Country Club, in 1986. Tom Hunter designed the original course, and Kris Spence led a full renovation in 2005 and 2006.
For weddings, the club centers on the Lakeside Dining Room, which looks out over the 18th green and Bentwinds lake, with sunset views built into the room’s orientation rather than added afterward. The club offers both indoor and outdoor accommodations, and separate dressing areas are set aside for the bride and groom, so getting-ready time does not have to happen off-site or in a shared space.
Capacity & Layout
The golf course itself shapes the outdoor side of a wedding day here: the opening nine plays as a par 36 at 3,400 yards from the back tees, and the back nine runs slightly over 3,300 yards, with six sets of tees total to suit different skill levels. That much open, maintained ground around the clubhouse means an outdoor ceremony or cocktail hour has real room to spread out rather than being confined to a single lawn.
Indoors, the Lakeside Dining Room is the reception anchor, positioned to face the 18th green and the lake, and separate bridal and groom’s dressing areas mean the wedding party can prepare on-site without borrowing a member’s lounge or a hallway. The combination of a lakeside room for dinner and dancing with open fairways for photos gives a couple two very different backdrops within a short walk of each other.
Amenities
An on-site culinary team handles catering directly, offering buffet service, plated dinners, and hors d’oeuvres, and a full-service bar and grille is available on the property, so a couple is not coordinating an outside caterer or bar service into a private club. The greens themselves are maintained turf, bermudagrass fairways with A-1 and A-4 bentgrass greens, part of why the grounds photograph as manicured rather than simply mowed.
