The Space

This downtown Thomasville property began as a wedding gift. Ernestine Lambeth Finch’s parents gave her the lot, and her husband Thomas Austin Finch raised the Renaissance Revival mansion on it in 1921, enlarging it in 1938. Finch graduated from Trinity College in 1909, later served as mayor of Thomasville from 1923 to 1925, and his widow and son went on to establish the Thomas Austin Finch Foundation. The house now carries a National Register of Historic Places listing.

The house itself covers roughly 7,000 square feet on 1.5 acres in the middle of town, with four main rooms on the first floor for entertaining and a library finished in hand-carved rosewood walls and trim. A backyard holds room for a tent, and a separate carriage house sits behind the main house. The grounds mix formal garden space with lawn, giving a couple more than one backdrop without leaving the property.

Capacity & Layout

The library seats 70 for an indoor ceremony, a number that keeps a wedding party close and the room feeling full rather than sparse. Move to reception mode and the first floor holds 100 guests across those four connecting rooms, letting a couple split cocktail hour from dinner without renting extra furniture. For a bigger guest list, a tent in the backyard extends capacity to 200, so the house itself does not cap how large the day can get.

Upstairs, the bridal suite occupies the master bedroom, with a mirrored walk-in closet that gives a wedding party real space to get ready and photograph. The groom’s side has its own master bedroom with a pool table and a lounge area, so both parties can spend the morning on site instead of driving in separately. Five boutique bedrooms sleep up to 12 guests overnight, which matters for a couple who wants family close by the night before and after.

Amenities

A full catering kitchen with its own separate entrance means the caterer can work the whole event without crossing paths with guests or the wedding party, and deliveries do not have to come through the front of a historic house. The carriage house at the back of the property carries its own full-service bar and an indoor dance floor, giving the reception a distinct space of its own away from the more formal rooms in the main house.

Parking is on site in a private lot, with additional street parking nearby for a larger guest count, so out-of-town guests are not left circling downtown Thomasville looking for a spot. The rosewood-paneled library and the four connected rooms on the first floor give a couple several distinct backdrops without ever leaving the house, which is part of why the property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Downtown Thomasville puts this house within easy reach for guests coming from anywhere in the Piedmont Triad, and it is a room we have worked ourselves. The house sits right in town rather than out on a rural road, which keeps the drive short for a rehearsal dinner the night before or a next-morning brunch, and it means guests are not navigating gravel or unlit lanes after dark.

Sound plays differently in each part of the property. The rosewood-lined library is a smaller, warmer room, well suited to a quieter ceremony with acoustic guitar or a string duo, while the carriage house, with its own dance floor set apart from the main house, is where we set up for the reception itself so the bass and volume needed for dancing never bleed into the more formal rooms where family is still seated and talking.
