The Space

The Commerce & Design Building sits in the middle of downtown High Point’s furniture market district: nine stories, 257,180 square feet, built for the twice-yearly rush of the High Point Market rather than for weddings. A bi-directional escalator runs top to bottom through a vertical glass atrium, and the floor plates are laid out to be navigable, so buyers can move room to room without getting lost among the showrooms.

Arteriors, the luxury lighting, furniture and decor brand, occupies the ground floor in suites 1A, 1B and 1G. The company opened this showroom in fall 2022, twice the footprint of its previous space in the IHFC building, after showing at High Point Market since the company was founded in 1987. International Market Centers bought the building in February 2015, and it now runs at 99 percent leased, so an event here happens inside a live, working design showroom rather than a room cleared out for the occasion.

Capacity & Layout

There is no published guest count for this building, and that is the honest answer: it was designed around showroom traffic through nine floors, not around banquet seating. What that means for a couple is that the usable footprint for an event is the Arteriors ground floor itself, its three connected suites, rather than the whole tower. The escalators connect every floor, but the space you are actually renting is bounded by where Arteriors’ showroom stops and the next exhibitor’s starts.

Because the ground floor is stocked as a working showroom carrying over 200 product lines of furnishings and accessories, the room arrives already furnished. Sofas, lighting fixtures and case goods double as staged decor, which changes the layout conversation from an empty-room blank slate to working around what is already on the floor, arranging seating and a dance area between existing vignettes rather than building a floor plan from scratch.

Amenities

Building hours run nine in the morning to five in the evening, which sets the outer edges of when vendors can load in and load out on the day of an event; anything outside that window has to be arranged directly with building management rather than assumed. The escalators that move guests floor to floor also mean step-free movement for anyone who cannot take stairs, which matters in a nine-story commercial tower.

Beyond the showroom itself, the amenities here are the furnishings on display: Arteriors’ lighting and decor lines are already staged and lit, so a couple gets a professionally styled room without renting decor separately. What is not available is anything built specifically for events, no dedicated bridal suite or catering kitchen is part of the record, so those pieces get brought in.

Location & Getting There

The building sits in the heart of High Point’s downtown market district, the same several blocks that fill with buyers twice a year for High Point Market, one of the largest home furnishings trade shows in the world. Outside market weeks, the district is quieter, but guests are still arriving at a commercial showroom building among other showroom buildings, not a standalone venue with its own grounds or parking lot.

For a DJ, the room to plan around is that ground-floor showroom: a glass atrium and escalators running through the building’s core reflect sound rather than absorbing it, so a setup in the Arteriors suites stays tighter and closer to the dance floor, with volume tuned down from what an open banquet hall would take, to keep the mix clean against all that glass.
