The Space

Before it hosted a single wedding, this barn spent half a century doing exactly what a dairy barn does: it went up in 1946 to feed cafeteria lines at the Springs Cotton Mills across York, Chester, and Lancaster counties. The Anne Springs Close Greenway converted it to an event space in 1996, and in 2020 it was renamed the Founders Dairy Barn after a $5 million gift from Founders Federal Credit Union. That working history is still visible in the original beams overhead.

The building is laid out on two levels plus an outdoor patio: an upstairs loft, kept with its original beams, for ceremonies, and a downstairs floor split into a dining room and a smaller assembly space for cocktails. That vertical split matters for planning, since it means the ceremony, cocktail hour, and dinner each get their own room rather than one space doing all three jobs in sequence.

Capacity & Layout

The upstairs loft holds up to 300 for a ceremony in rows, which is generous for this kind of barn venue and gives couples with a large guest list room to seat everyone at once rather than splitting the ceremony across standing and seated groups. Downstairs, the Milk Parlour seats a maximum of 150 for dinner, so couples with a guest count above that figure should plan their layout around the loft doing double duty or trim the dinner list to match the room.

The Assembly Space downstairs adds seating for another 50 during cocktail hour, and the outdoor patio can hold 100 more, giving the property real flexibility to spread a crowd across four distinct areas instead of packing everyone into one room for the whole night. That spread also gives a wedding natural scene changes: ceremony in the loft, cocktails on the patio or in the Assembly Space, dinner in the Milk Parlour.

Amenities

The barn is fully temperature controlled, which is worth noting for a converted farm building and means summer or winter dates are not a gamble on comfort. A bridal suite is on site, along with on-site parking, bar service, catering, and Wi-Fi, so most of the logistics a couple would otherwise have to bring in themselves are already part of the property. The venue is also handicap accessible throughout.

Bar service runs through the Greenway’s own exclusive package rather than an outside vendor, with alcohol built into that arrangement, and outside vendors are otherwise permitted for catering styles including buffet, family-style, stations, and passed hors d’oeuvres. Wedding days come with 10 hours of event time plus an additional hour for rehearsal, which is enough runway to cover setup, the ceremony, cocktail hour, dinner, and a full night of dancing without rushing the schedule.

Location & Getting There

The barn sits inside the Anne Springs Close Greenway, a 2,100-acre nature preserve in Fort Mill, South Carolina, with 36 to 40 miles of trails and a 28-acre lake among several smaller ponds. Couples touring the property are really touring a working preserve, not a standalone event lot, which is part of the draw: guests arrive to open pasture and trail views rather than a parking lot next to a road.

Fort Mill sits just south of Charlotte, close enough that Charlotte-area guests have an easy drive and far enough that the day still feels like it is out in the country. Inside the barn, the exposed wood beams and hard barn-plank surfaces of the loft carry sound differently than the more finished downstairs rooms, so a DJ setting up for the ceremony in the loft plans for a livelier, more reflective room than the dinner space below.
