The Space
Long before it hosted weddings, the building at the Whitechapel Projects was a working warehouse over 120 years old, and it reopened on December 12, 2018, after a sustainable adaptive-reuse renovation that reclaimed more than 72,000 original bricks and three tons of timber rather than replacing them. The name comes from London’s Whitechapel District, and the finished space keeps that industrial character: exposed brick, reclaimed wood, and a building that reads as genuinely old rather than made to look that way.
Inside, the Chapel room has white matte walls, exposed brick accents, and high ceilings under exposed white beams, a lighter counterpoint to the brick and timber elsewhere on the property. We worked this space, and the venue runs its own nano-brewery and hosts the organic Two River Mushroom Company on-site, both signs that this is a working building, not a rented-out shell.
Capacity & Layout
Capacity ranges from 20 to 250 guests, with seated capacity topping out at 250 and the tented backyard alone holding up to 225. That range means the venue genuinely works for both a small ceremony and a full buyout wedding, without a couple needing to book a space sized for a crowd they do not have.
The Courtyard, enclosed by 22-foot brick walls strung with bistro lights, is the primary ceremony site, while receptions can run in the tented backyard, the restaurant, or the Courtyard itself depending on guest count and season. The venue only hosts one event per day, so whichever combination of spaces a couple books, they have exclusive use of the property rather than sharing it with another event.
Amenities
The backyard is tented from mid-April through June and again from September through November, which covers the two heaviest wedding stretches of the year with weather protection built in rather than added as a rental afterthought. On-site catering runs chef-driven and farm-to-table, including artisan pizzas from the kitchen, alongside a full bar that pours the house nano-brewery’s beers along with cocktails and wine.
Parking is free on-site, and the restaurant keeps limited hours during the busiest event months, Thursday through Saturday afternoons and evenings otherwise, which signals how much of the operation shifts toward private events in season. Restrooms are gender non-specific and single-stall, and dogs are welcome, useful details for a couple planning who and what comes along for the day.
Location & Getting There
The venue sits steps from the Atlantic Ocean and the Pier Village shopping area in Long Branch, close enough that a couple can walk guests to the beach for photos between the ceremony and reception without a car involved. Newark Liberty International Airport is about 45 miles away, a reasonable distance for out-of-town guests flying in.
Being this close to the shore also means the venue draws foot traffic and a beach-town atmosphere that a purely inland warehouse space would not have, and it puts a wedding weekend within easy walking distance of Pier Village for guests who want to explore before or after the event. For sound, the Courtyard’s tall brick walls hold music inside its footprint well for a ceremony, while the tented backyard, open-sided and seasonal, needs a system built for outdoor coverage rather than the tighter, reflective sound of the brick-walled rooms.
