The Space

The oldest part of the Washington Crossing Inn is the stone homestead Bernard Taylor built in 1817, on ground with an even older story: the McConkey family ran a ferry crossing and inn here from the late 1750s, and George Washington likely ate at that earlier inn before crossing the Delaware on Christmas night, 1776. Taylor bought the ferry inn property, 304 acres of it, from the McConkeys in 1777.

In the 1930s the Haven family bought the Taylor home, renovated it, and added the colonial style wing that now holds the lobby and the Washington Ballroom, while the original 1817 structure was kept intact as the inn’s Hearth Room and Covered Bridge Room. The kitchen’s original open hearth is still the focal point of the Hearth Room today. Brothers Dr. Eli Mordechai and Jerry Moradi have owned the inn since 2009.

Capacity & Layout

The Washington Ballroom seats 180, or up to 200 without a dance floor in place, and comes with its own private bar, a working fireplace, and 15 large paned windows looking out over Washington Crossing itself. That window count is worth noting for a couple planning an evening reception, since the room is built to bring the historic grounds outside into view rather than closing them off from it.

Outdoors, the Secret Garden and patio areas host ceremonies, and the Park Side Tent adds 70 more seats overlooking the state park and the Washington Crossing statue, with a center lawn tent finished in white chiffon drapery and glass chandeliers available as a second outdoor option. Between the ballroom, Martha’s Vineyard room, and the outdoor tents, a couple has more than one combination of ceremony and reception space to choose from.

Amenities

Catering is in-house, led by an executive chef who accommodates gluten free, vegan, vegetarian, and other dietary needs, and the full bar carries house liquors, wines, beers, and signature cocktails. A Presidential suite is available for the wedding party’s use on the day, and the entire first floor is handicap accessible, with a ramp at the side door and a first floor restroom.

The inn operates year round, daily, which gives a couple more flexibility on dates than a seasonal venue would, and a private parking lot is available on site rather than relying on street parking in a historic district. Between the Presidential suite, the in-house kitchen, and the full bar, most of a wedding day’s logistics are handled inside the building itself.

Location & Getting There

Washington Crossing Inn sits in Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania, about an hour from both New York City and Philadelphia, directly adjacent to Washington Crossing Historic Park along the Delaware River. The inn overlooks the park and the Washington Crossing statue, so the same ground where the crossing was staged in 1776 is visible from the property’s windows and outdoor spaces.

We have worked a wedding in the Washington Ballroom, where the fireplace and 15 paned windows sit inside a room enclosed enough to hold sound the way a traditional ballroom does; the Secret Garden and Park Side Tent setups outdoors are a different case, open to the Delaware River air, so a DJ system there is built for an outdoor environment rather than a walled room.
