The Space
Dana and Tracy Horne planted their muscadine vineyard in 2009 to sell grapes to local wineries, then opened it as a u-pick operation to the public in 2019 before building it out into a full event venue. The main building, 4,608 square feet and originally designed to function as a winery, still shows that intent: pine walls built entirely from North Carolina lumber and trusses that rise 25 feet overhead in the 2,400 square foot ceremony room.
That same room does double duty as a covered ceremony space and, if weather turns, as an indoor reception area, so a couple is not choosing between a vineyard wedding and a weather backup plan. Outside, the property adds a pond, a courtyard, and wrap-around covered patios finished with haint blue ceilings, giving a couple several genuinely different backdrops for photos and ceremony without leaving the grounds.
Capacity & Layout
The venue holds 150 guests comfortably, with room to seat up to 180 for a fully seated event, which puts it solidly in mid-size wedding territory: large enough for an extended family and a full guest list, small enough that the room still feels populated rather than half-empty. Couples can choose a ceremony site in the vineyard itself, at the front of the venue, in the courtyard, or indoors in the 2,400 square foot room, then move guests to a separate reception setup afterward.
The bridal suite is built for a real wedding-day timeline, with five antique mirrors, a custom-built counter, seating, a TV and a private bathroom with a shower, so getting ready does not mean sharing a single mirror or borrowing a bathroom down the hall. A separate groom’s den and a kitchen for outside caterer use round out a layout where the wedding party, the caterer, and the guests each have their own space rather than crossing paths all day.
Amenities
Licensed caterers are required for indoor events, and home-prepared food is limited to desserts, pre-ceremony snacks in the bridal suite or groom’s den, and the balcony or patio rentals, so couples should plan on booking a licensed caterer for the meal itself rather than assembling a potluck. There is no on-site bar; clients arrange their own alcohol vendor and, if serving alcohol, must obtain a Special Occasion Permit from NC ABC, which is worth building into the planning timeline early.
The property is a working farm with rugged terrain in places, though concrete walkways run throughout and the venue provides handicap-accessible restroom facilities, so mobility concerns are worth a conversation with the venue directly rather than an assumption either way. Beyond the wedding areas, the u-pick section still uses repurposed tobacco trailers as picnic tables, along with scales, photo spots and fish food dispensers, a detail guests notice if they wander the grounds during cocktail hour.
Location & Getting There
Twisted Vines sits between Raleigh and Wilmington off I-40, minutes from historic Clinton and within reach of Fayetteville and Goldsboro, with Raleigh-Durham International Airport about 70 miles to the northwest for out-of-town guests flying in. There is no overnight lodging on site, but boutique lodging is available nearby in Clinton for a wedding party that wants to stay close without leaving the grounds themselves.
Music has a firm curfew here: it must end by 10:30pm on Friday and Saturday and by 9pm on Sunday, with vendors off the property by midnight or 10pm respectively, so a DJ building the night’s timeline needs to plan the last dance well before that cutoff. Indoors, the 2,400 square foot room with its pine walls and 25-foot trusses gives sound real height to work with, while the covered patios keep an outdoor reception sheltered without losing the open-air feel that makes the vineyard setting worth choosing in the first place.
