The Space

Truist Field opened in 2014, built for 54 million dollars as the third major sports facility to rise in Uptown Charlotte after Bank of America Stadium and Spectrum Center. It is home to the Charlotte Knights, whose roots trace back to 1976 as the Double-A Charlotte Orioles before the club rebranded as the Knights in 1988, a nod to Charlotte’s Queen City nickname, and became the White Sox Triple-A affiliate in 1999.

The ballpark is built with a 360-degree concourse that wraps the entire field, so guests can circulate all the way around the park rather than being confined to one section, and it hosts private and public events for groups from 10 up to 10,000 when the Knights are on the road. Ceremonies are held on the field itself, with the skyline rising beyond the outfield wall as a backdrop that no indoor venue in the city can duplicate.

Capacity & Layout

The venue offers a real range of room sizes rather than one fixed banquet hall: the Diamond Direct Luxury Lounge holds 400 for a reception or 200 seated, the Piedmont Natural Gas Picnic Area holds up to 500 reception-style, the Concourse itself can take 1,000 standing, and the more intimate Home Plate Club and Corona Rooftop scale down to 100 to 150 seated. That spread means a couple can match room to guest count instead of overbuilding or shrinking a space to fit.

The seating bowl itself holds 6,000 seats with an outfield lawn beyond it, and the full facility tops out around 10,200, numbers that put a private wedding well inside the park’s normal operating capacity rather than pushing its limits. Field dimensions of 330 feet down the left field line, 400 to center, and 315 down the right give a sense of just how much open ground a ceremony on the field actually has to work with.

Amenities

The Budweiser Home Plate Club and stadium concession stands handle the bar side of an event, and on-site catering is available directly through the venue, so a couple is not stuck coordinating an outside caterer’s logistics through a stadium’s loading docks. The concourse itself provides covered space, useful as a fallback if weather turns during an outdoor field or lawn event.

The park is ADA-compliant with accessible restrooms throughout, and its 20 suites, each holding 20 for a reception, plus two larger Dugout Suites at 30 each, give a couple options for VIP or family gathering space separate from the main reception, a useful feature for a rehearsal dinner or a smaller family-only portion of the weekend held apart from the main event.

Location & Getting There

Truist Field sits in Uptown Charlotte, with multiple parking garages roughly half a mile away, close enough that guests are not making a long trek after parking but far enough that game-day gridlock, when there is a game, does not sit directly on top of the venue. Charlotte Douglas International Airport is the nearest airport for out-of-town guests flying in.

Because the park operates on a spring-through-summer baseball season and takes private events mainly when the Knights are traveling, the booking calendar runs differently than a standard venue, worth confirming early. Sound in a ballpark setting behaves the way open-air venues do generally: with no ceiling to bounce off, a DJ setup on the concourse or field needs speakers aimed and positioned deliberately rather than relying on a room’s walls to carry the sound to the back of a large, open crowd.
