The Space
Treyburn Country Club sits on 220 acres of rolling Carolina hills in northern Durham, land shaped into a planned community when the club was established in 1988. The golf course at its center was designed by Tom Fazio, one of the sport’s best known architects, and it earned Best New Course from Golf Digest in its inaugural year, a distinction that put Treyburn on the map before the club was even a year old.
The clubhouse itself runs 47,000 square feet, built to handle both daily club dining and larger hosted events, and it has been part of McConnell Golf’s portfolio since the company acquired Treyburn in 2006. McConnell Golf owns and operates a number of private clubs across the Southeast, and Treyburn’s clubhouse and grounds reflect that scale, a facility built for a membership large enough to support tennis, aquatics, a fitness center, and multiple event rooms under one roof.
Capacity & Layout
Wedding-scale events at Treyburn run through the Grand Ballroom, which holds 150 to 400 guests and offers panoramic views, or the matching outdoor ceremony lawn, which holds the same 150 to 400 range so a couple can plan a ceremony and reception at comparable scale without one space forcing a smaller guest list than the other. That symmetry between the indoor ballroom and the outdoor lawn gives real flexibility in how the day gets split between ceremony and reception.
For smaller gatherings tied to the wedding, the clubhouse also has the Kenan Lounge and the Sanford Library, each holding up to 20 people, useful for a rehearsal dinner, a bridal party gathering, or an intimate family event separate from the main reception. Having both a large-capacity ballroom and small private rooms in the same building means a couple can host the full wedding weekend, not just the reception itself, without changing venues.
Amenities
Beyond the golf course, Treyburn’s amenities include Har-Tru tennis courts, a 25-meter swimming pool, and a modern fitness center with cardio and circuit equipment, the kind of club infrastructure that supports a membership year-round rather than existing only for special events. The golf course itself plays 7,070 yards at par 72 across 18 holes, with Crenshaw blend bent grass greens, and currently ranks No. 30 among Golf Digest’s Best Golf Courses in North Carolina.
The practice facility adds a 140,000-square-foot putting surface and a seven-acre driving range with six target greens, and the club runs an active calendar of club-sponsored and interclub golf events throughout the year. For a couple with golf-minded guests, or a wedding party that wants photos against fairway views, that working golf operation is part of what the grounds offer beyond the ceremony lawn and ballroom.
Location & Getting There
Treyburn sits in northern Durham, inside the same 220-acre master-planned community that has surrounded the club since 1988, so the drive in moves through the rolling landscape the club itself is built on rather than arriving at a standalone building set against a plain parking lot.
We have worked a wedding at Treyburn before, and the club offers both a fully enclosed ballroom with panoramic views and an outdoor ceremony lawn holding the same guest range, so a DJ setup can move from open-air ceremony sound, which needs to account for wind and the wide sightlines of a golf-course lawn, into the more contained acoustics of the Grand Ballroom for the reception, two different sound environments inside one booking.
