The Space

Phil Nordan grew up building treehouses on a tobacco farm, and that background shows up directly in what he built at Treehouse Vineyards: after watching Pete Nelson on Treehouse Masters, he constructed the Date Nite Treehouse using lumber and wood salvaged from his father’s old tobacco barn, so the property’s newest structures are built partly from the wood of an older one. He and his wife Dianne established the vineyard in 2004 and planted the first vines in the spring of 2005.

The property sits on 35 acres, with about 10 currently in use for the vineyard and treehouse area, and it grows eight varieties of Muscadine grapes, chosen because they hold up better to the warm Piedmont climate than the traditional grape varieties a couple might expect at a vineyard further north. A pond on the property was once a rock quarry belonging to Dianne’s grandfather, leased to the city of Monroe during the Great Depression, and its rock paved Monroe’s roads into the early 1950s.

Capacity & Layout

The venue seats up to 150 guests, and the property offers both covered reception areas and outdoor ceremony locations, so a couple can plan a ceremony under the sky and move the reception under cover without leaving the grounds. Beyond the tasting room and the main wedding venue space, there is also a room the property describes as a religious room with historical displays, giving a couple an additional indoor option depending on the shape of the day.

Three treehouses sit on the property and can be booked for overnight stays: Papa’s Dream House at roughly 160 square feet with a couch, a small kitchen, and a bathroom downstairs plus a bedroom loft upstairs, the larger 1,000-square-foot Horsefeathers Hideaway, and the Date Nite Treehouse built from the reclaimed tobacco barn lumber. For a wedding weekend, that means the couple or close family can actually sleep on site the night of the wedding instead of driving home or checking into a hotel.

Amenities

Wine tastings run daily on the hour starting at 1pm, with small complimentary tastings also available throughout the day based on a guest’s preferences, and the bar offers wine by the glass or bottle. That built-in tasting operation means a couple hosting a rehearsal dinner or welcome gathering here has a working wine program on site already, rather than needing to bring in a separate bar service for that portion of the weekend.

The property draws around 1,000 visitors a week for tours, tastings, live music, trivia, private functions, and general relaxation, so it operates as a working destination beyond wedding bookings, not a venue that sits closed between events. Regular hours run afternoon into evening most days, stretching later on Friday and Saturday, which lines up well with a Saturday wedding timeline that needs the grounds open from midday through a nighttime reception.

Location & Getting There

Treehouse Vineyards sits in Monroe, about 45 minutes from Uptown Charlotte, close enough for Charlotte-based guests to make the drive without it eating the whole day, but far enough out that the property feels like a genuine departure from the city, rolling vineyard rows and treehouses rather than a downtown hotel ballroom.

We have worked a wedding on these grounds before, and the mix of open-air vineyard rows and covered reception space changes how a DJ setup runs depending on where the day lands: outdoor ceremony space needs weather-aware placement for speakers, while the covered reception areas hold sound closer to the dance floor the way an enclosed room would, giving a couple a genuinely different sound environment depending on which parts of the property they choose for each part of the day.
