The Space
Built in the late 1800s as home to the family behind the White Furniture Company, founded by Stephen White, who was also a co-founder of the town of Mebane, this house predates most of the venues on our list. That company made fine furniture from the 1890s into the 1990s, a hundred year run that overlaps almost exactly with the life of this house, and the property’s recorded land documents reach even further back, into the late 1700s.
The structure a couple sees today is not the original one-room house, it grew over more than 130 years with additions built on and around it, a layering that shows in the period rooms still preserved inside. Before it became an event venue, the house had been abandoned and condemned, and owners Celine and Aubrey Meador took on an extensive restoration to bring it back, work recognized with a Preservation Award from the Mebane Historical Museum.
Capacity & Layout
The venue does not publish a fixed guest capacity, so a couple booking here should plan to confirm the number their event needs directly with the owners rather than relying on a published maximum, since the house’s period rooms were not built to a modern banquet-hall standard. What is documented is a working tea service, held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 11am to 4pm and Sunday afternoons from 2pm to 4pm, using more than 40 vintage teapots kept on site for guests.
That tea service points to how the house is generally used day to day, in smaller rooms rather than one large open hall, which suits a wedding built around an intimate guest list more than a several-hundred-person reception. A couple planning a larger event should walk the house in person to see how the period rooms connect before settling on a floor plan, since the layout reflects the home’s original room-by-room construction rather than a single event space.
Amenities
The restoration itself is the venue’s main amenity, a house that was condemned before Celine and Aubrey Meador brought it back, now furnished well enough to host a regular tea service in addition to private events. That level of care in the restoration means a couple is working inside real period rooms, not a reproduction, and the more than 40 vintage teapots on hand for tea service are a detail of just how far the restoration went into the small stuff.
The property’s beautiful acreage includes a pastoral pond, close to Mebane’s historic downtown, so guests have a quiet outdoor setting on the grounds without leaving the property. Between the preserved interior rooms and the pond outside, the venue offers a couple two genuinely different backdrops on one piece of land, an indoor period house for part of the day and open grounds for another.
Location & Getting There
Mebane sits between two of North Carolina’s major population centers, the Raleigh-Durham Triangle and the Greensboro-Winston-Salem-High Point Triad, which puts the venue within a reasonable drive for guests coming from either direction rather than favoring one metro area over the other.
Because the house is a preserved period home built up over more than 130 years rather than an open hall, its interior carries the hard plaster walls, wood floors and smaller connected rooms typical of a house that age, so a DJ setting up for a reception here is working within a home’s real architecture, where sound stays close to the room it is played in rather than spreading through one big open space.
