Established in 2006, this venue was known for years as The Riverwalk Landing before it was formally renamed Little Drum Landing, though it has kept the same location and operation the entire time. It sits at the south end of the Riverwalk in historic downtown Wilmington, on the Cape Fear River, and it is described as the only outdoor river location in the historic downtown, a detail that shapes everything else about the space.

The venue’s primary space is a spacious deck, positioned as the main setting for both ceremonies and receptions rather than a secondary outdoor add-on to an indoor room. It sits adjacent to two working restaurants, Elijah’s and The Pilot House, which double as the venue’s caterers. Having served hundreds of brides since it opened in 2006, the space has a track record that predates its recent rename.

Capacity & Layout

Seated capacity runs to 250 guests, a number that puts this on the larger end for a downtown Wilmington venue and gives a couple room for a substantial guest list without needing an overflow tent or a second location. Because the venue’s multiple decks can be rented based on guest count, a smaller wedding is not forced to fill a footprint sized for 250, and a larger one has room to grow into.

Ceremonies typically happen on the outdoor deck, with tent cover available for weather protection, while reception setups can use multiple outdoor decks along with indoor spaces for dining. That mix means a couple’s day can move: ceremony on the deck, cocktail hour on an adjoining deck, and dinner and dancing shifting to a covered or indoor area, giving the evening a sense of progression rather than staying in one fixed spot.

Amenities

Catering runs through the venue’s two adjacent restaurant partners, Elijah’s and The Pilot House, which removes the step of sourcing an outside caterer and vetting their insurance and menu separately. A bridal suite is available on site for getting ready, and a bar is available as well, so the core pieces of a wedding day, food, drink, and a place to dress, are already built into the venue rather than trucked in.

Because multiple decks can be rented depending on guest count, a couple pays for the footprint their wedding actually needs rather than one fixed package regardless of size. Private paid parking lots sit nearby for guests driving in, a practical detail in a historic downtown where street parking is limited. We’ve worked an event on this deck, and the venue’s identity as the only outdoor river location downtown is the thing to plan around: because the primary space is an open-air deck rather than an enclosed room, sound has nowhere to bounce off of, so a DJ setup there needs to be sized for open air, and any tent cover used for the ceremony changes how far the music carries across the space.
