The Space
The Pump House sits inside Ironworks at Pencoyd Landing, a site that began in 1852 as an iron foundry shipping goods down the Schuylkill River, then passed through a stretch as a World War II arms plant and later a car factory before falling into disrepair. Penn Group started redeveloping the property in 2000 to reconnect it to the river, and The Pump House itself, a 12,000-square-foot event space, opened in late April 2024.
The building keeps its industrial history visible: 30-foot cathedral ceilings, exposed steel beams, handmade tiles, and brass details throughout, built from reclaimed elements of the original 1852 foundry. The Pump House operates as an extension of Lark, the coastal Mediterranean restaurant that opened on the property in 2021 and had hosted events on its own before The Pump House gave the site a dedicated venue.
Capacity & Layout
The Main Hall seats 225 guests or holds 300 for a cocktail-style reception, and the full property can accommodate up to 350 across its combined spaces, so a couple has room to scale a wedding up without outgrowing the building. That range means a smaller ceremony and a larger reception can both happen on site without a couple having to choose one size and stick to it all night.
Beyond the Main Hall, The Bar holds 125 guests around a handcrafted walnut counter, and The Speakeasy, a subterranean lounge beneath The Bar, holds up to 60 for a more intimate gathering. That gives a couple distinct rooms for different parts of the night, a late-night lounge separate from the main reception, rather than trying to recreate that mood in a corner of the same hall.
Amenities
Chef Nick Elmi, a James Beard Award nominee and Bravo Top Chef winner, leads the culinary program, offering seated, family-style, and cocktail reception menus built around the coastal Mediterranean focus he brought to Lark next door. For a couple who cares about the food being a genuine part of the day rather than an afterthought, having a chef with that background running the kitchen is a real amenity in itself.
The Residence Inn by Marriott on site offers 124 suites with full kitchens, an indoor pool, and complimentary hot breakfast, which means out-of-town guests, and the wedding party the morning after, can stay steps from the venue instead of booking a hotel block somewhere else. Parking is available on site as well, so guests are not left hunting for street spots near the river.
Location & Getting There
Ironworks at Pencoyd Landing sits along the Schuylkill River in the Philadelphia area, and the setting is part of the draw: the Train Shed, a light-filled covered outdoor space, and a private garden both overlook the water and serve as ceremony sites. That riverside backdrop gives a couple genuine outdoor scenery to work with, not a parking lot dressed up for photos.
Indoors, the Main Hall’s 30-foot cathedral ceilings and exposed steel give a DJ real vertical space for sound to open up without feeling boxed in, while the subterranean Speakeasy offers the opposite, a low, close room where a smaller system carries the whole space, so the same wedding can move between a big reception sound and an intimate late-night set without leaving the building.
