The Space
Five generations of the Sockwell and Paisley families have lived on and worked this 70-acre farm in McLeansville, between Greensboro and Burlington near Interstates 85 and 40, and three generations of educators called it home over the past hundred years. Lance and Shervawn Sockwell, high school sweethearts who met at Western Carolina University, now run it as an event venue, and the farm still keeps cattle, sheep, goats, and alpaca on the property.
The bridal suite is the old homestead itself, tastefully remodeled rather than replaced, so getting ready happens inside a building with real family history attached to it. The reception space is a pole barn, and the property’s first event was not a wedding at all but a 5K race, a detail that says something about how the farm has been used before it became primarily a wedding venue.
Capacity & Layout
The property can host up to 300 guests for ceremonies and receptions, with multiple ceremony sites to choose from: two ponds, open meadows, shaded wooded areas, and the barn itself, so a couple is not locked into one fixed backdrop and can pick a setting that matches the season or the time of day of the ceremony. Reception moves into the pole barn, which separates that part of the day from wherever the ceremony was held on the grounds.
Get-ready rooms are available on site in addition to the homestead bridal suite, giving the wedding party more than one space to prepare in if needed. Because the ceremony sites are spread across 70 acres, from ponds to wooded areas, a couple choosing between them should factor in walking distance for guests, particularly anyone less able to cross open farm ground.
Amenities
A mobile bar called The Thirsty Hereford comes with a bartender included, which covers bar service without a couple sourcing that separately. The venue also has wireless internet and wheelchair access, along with the get-ready rooms already noted, so basic infrastructure is handled even though the setting is a working farm rather than a hotel or hall.
The livestock on the property, cattle, sheep, goats, and alpaca, are part of what a couple is booking when they choose a working farm over a built venue, and it is worth confirming with the Sockwells how animals are managed during an event if that is a concern for guests. The farm’s setting, with its ponds and wooded areas, gives photography real variety across a single property.
Location & Getting There
The Paisley sits in McLeansville, positioned between Greensboro and Burlington near Interstates 85 and 40, which keeps it accessible for guests driving in from either city without a long haul in either direction. As a rural property, guests should expect farm roads and open ground rather than a paved lot right up to the door, and anyone in heels should plan accordingly for the walk between the parking area and the ceremony site.
Between the open meadows and pond-side ceremony sites and the enclosed pole barn reception space, a DJ setup shifts significantly across the day: an outdoor ceremony by a pond needs a system built to carry sound across open ground, while the barn’s harder, enclosed surfaces call for a tighter setup positioned close to the dance floor once the reception moves indoors.
