The Space
The property runs to 180 acres in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains, and it is a working farm first, an event venue second. Steve and Candice MacLean bought the land about ten years ago and built it into a certified organic operation raising grass-fed beef, pastured pork, and free-range poultry, and that working identity shapes what a couple sees when they walk the grounds: real barns, real fields, not a stage set.
The two structures couples lean on most are the barn and the Mill. The barn used for dinners and events is a newly renovated 1930s dairy barn, kept close to its original bones. The Mill is a seven-suite boutique inn inside a restored 1805 grist mill, so the wedding party and out-of-town guests can sleep on the same property where the ceremony happens, which removes a whole category of after-party logistics.
Capacity & Layout
Glenwood Mountain does not funnel every wedding into one room. It offers five named outdoor ceremony and reception spaces: the Barn, the Great Lawn, the Herb Garden, the Flower Garden, and the Orchard, so a couple can put the ceremony under fruit trees, cocktail hour in a garden, and the reception in the barn without ever leaving the property or feeding guests into a parking lot in between.
Overnight capacity is spread across four buildings: the Farmhouse sleeps 12 across five bedrooms, the Cottage sleeps 8 across four, the Mill’s seven suites sleep 20, and the Milk Suite is a single room for two. For a couple planning a weekend rather than a single evening, that is real headcount, enough to house the wedding party and close family on site instead of shuttling them to a hotel after the last song.
Amenities
Food here is not catered in from off site in the usual sense. Chef and farmer Steve MacLean builds a tasting menu around what the farm actually grows and raises: grass-fed beef, pastured pork, free-range chicken and duck, all-natural turkey, and more than 200 varieties of organic fruit and vegetables harvested through the year. A couple choosing Glenwood Mountain is choosing that menu as much as the setting.
The Milk Suite serves as a private retreat for wedding-morning preparation, and the barn is heated, so a late-fall or early-spring date does not automatically mean cold guests. Outdoor dining areas get string lights and a canopy setup, and the farm has grown to more than 1,800 animals as of 2024, including heritage rabbits, ducks, and bees kept for honey, so there is genuinely something to look at between the ceremony and dinner.
Location & Getting There
The farm sits about an hour from New York City, close enough for a day-trip guest but far enough that the drive itself feels like leaving the city behind. Vernon and nearby Warwick are the closest towns for anyone who needs a hotel outside the property’s own on-site rooms. The Appalachian Trail’s entrance is 500 feet from the farm, which some couples use for a morning hike before the day gets busy.
Sound and setup are different questions depending on which of the five spaces a couple books. The barn is enclosed and heated, so a DJ can run a full system indoors regardless of weather, while the Great Lawn, Herb Garden, Flower Garden, and Orchard are open-air and depend on the string-light and canopy setup for cover, which means outdoor sets need weatherproofed gear and a clear line of sight across open ground.
