The Space
The Eastern is a 36-story residential tower in Raleigh’s North Hills Park District, completed in 2022 by developer Kane Realty and formerly known as Walter Tower. At 377 feet, it is the tallest residential building in Raleigh and the fourth tallest skyscraper in the city, which means any event held in its upper-floor spaces comes with genuine height and panoramic views rather than a marketing description of a view.
The building’s rooftop includes an indoor and outdoor lounge with grilling stations, TVs and a private meeting and dining room with its own warming kitchen, looking out over Downtown and Midtown Raleigh. A separate seventh-floor resident lounge adds an entertaining kitchen, a TV wall, billiards and a collapsible wall that opens the room to the outdoors, giving a second, lower-floor option with a different feel than the rooftop.
Capacity & Layout
Because The Eastern is a residential building rather than a dedicated wedding venue, there is no published seated or standing capacity figure for its event spaces the way a traditional banquet hall would list one. The private rooftop meeting and dining room and the seventh-floor resident lounge are both sized for building residents and their private gatherings rather than large public wedding receptions, so a couple working with this space should confirm room dimensions directly.
The building sits on a 2.6-acre lot along with the neighboring Advance Auto Parts Tower, and its almost 25,000 square feet of combined indoor and outdoor amenity space is spread across multiple floors rather than concentrated in one ballroom. That layout means an event here is really a choice between distinct rooms, rooftop versus seventh floor versus pool deck, each with its own footprint and its own view.
Amenities
The rooftop lounge’s grilling stations and warming kitchen support a catered event without a caterer having to bring in a full outside kitchen setup, and the resort-style pool deck adds integrated cabanas with TVs and its own exterior kitchen and grilling area as another option for outdoor gathering. A 24-hour fitness center with weights, cardio equipment and a full CrossFit setup rounds out the building’s amenities, though it is not itself an event space.
The building offers 24/7 concierge service, which is useful for coordinating vendor arrivals and deliveries on an event day, and the property is pet-friendly with a screening process, which matters if guests are bringing along a dog for part of the celebration. Parking is available in the adjoining Advance Auto Parts Tower Garage, so guests are not searching for street parking in a busy mixed-use district.
Location & Getting There
The Eastern sits in the North Hills Park District, close to Interstate 440 exit 8, which keeps it convenient for guests coming from other parts of Raleigh. Raleigh-Durham International Airport is roughly 15 to 21 minutes away, a short enough drive that out-of-town guests flying in are not facing a long trek to reach the building afterward.
We have worked an event here, and the rooftop’s collapsible wall and open-air layout at the seventh-floor lounge mean sound behaves differently than it would in a fully enclosed ballroom: open sides and city air pull sound outward, so a DJ setup on the rooftop or in the resident lounge calls for tighter speaker placement and volume management than the fully indoor private dining room with its warming kitchen and closed walls would need.
