The Space
Jack Nicklaus and Reverend Billy Graham were both among the special guests when the Club at Longview opened on October 20, 2003. The land has a longer history than that date suggests: it was first known as The Longview Black Jack Farm back in the 1800s, and in 1953 Mel Graham’s father bought a portion of it as an annex to the Graham family’s dairy farm. Mel Graham later assembled more than 1,000 acres and built the club that stands here now.
The clubhouse runs 28,000 square feet across multiple lounges, dining areas, and terraces, and its old-world architectural character comes directly from Mel Graham’s travels through Europe. That is not incidental decor, it is the founding aesthetic of the whole property, and it shows in details throughout the building rather than in one showcase room.
Capacity & Layout
The Graham Ballroom, the club’s primary event space, seats 200 for a sit-down dinner or holds 250 for a stand-up reception, and it can be combined with the Wine Cellar, the Garden Room, the Courtyard Room, and the Terrace for a larger footprint. That flexibility lets a couple scale the event up or down: a smaller wedding in the Wine Cellar alone, or a full combination of rooms for a large one.
The TCL Board Room holds up to 48 people and looks out over the 18th hole from its own balcony, a smaller option for a rehearsal dinner or an intimate ceremony. Event lawns overlooking the golf course provide the outdoor ceremony setting, so a couple can marry outside with the course as backdrop and move the reception into the ballroom afterward.
Amenities
Catering is handled on site by the club’s Executive Chef, with seasonally inspired menus that can be customized rather than chosen from a fixed banquet list. A full-service bar rounds out the event package, with signature cocktails and champagne service built into what the club offers rather than something a couple has to arrange separately.
A 10,000-square-foot activity center adds massage and steam rooms, fitness facilities, a Youth Lodge, and resort-style pools, alongside four Har-Tru tennis courts elsewhere on the property. For a wedding weekend where guests are staying nearby in the gated community, those amenities give people something to do on the Saturday or Sunday around the event itself.
Location & Getting There
The golf course itself, a Jack Nicklaus Signature design, measures 7,065 yards from the Nicklaus tees with a course rating of 74.5 and a slope of 140, and it sits within a 500-acre property inside a roughly 1,000-acre gated community of about 320 homes. The club has been rated #11 in North Carolina by Golf Digest, and it sits in Waxhaw, close to Ballantyne and Charlotte, with full-time security and a gated entrance.
The Graham Ballroom’s vaulted ceilings and chandeliers create a formal, reverberant indoor space, while the event lawns outside are open air with the golf course as a visual backdrop rather than an acoustic factor. A DJ setup here shifts accordingly, more careful with levels under the ballroom’s height and hard surfaces, more open and less constrained for anything staged outdoors on the lawn.
