The Space

Built as a private home in 1894, the Clebourne House became something else entirely after a renovation and expansion between 2007 and 2008 turned it into a tri-level event venue, refurbished that year to hold multiple event rooms rather than the layout of a house built for a single family.

A 52-foot by 27-foot pavilion was completed in 2015 over the courtyard on the east side of the house, adding a covered outdoor space to what had been open air. Altogether, the property’s improvements total 4,087 square feet, including a 475-square-foot commercial kitchen building set to the rear. That kitchen is worth noting on its own, it is a dedicated structure, not a converted room inside the house.

Capacity & Layout

The house holds up to 300 guests seated and as many as 324 standing, a large number for a property built as a private residence in 1894. Three separate event rooms sit on the main floor, which gives a couple room to split functions, a smaller gathering in one room while another is set for dinner, or all three opened together for a single large reception.

The enclosed courtyard, now covered by the 2015 pavilion, works as an additional room in its own right rather than an outdoor overflow area, since it has a roof over it. A garden terrace adds a genuinely open-air option alongside it, so the property offers indoor rooms, a covered courtyard, and an open terrace, three different settings without leaving the grounds. The tri-level layout of the house itself adds a fourth dimension to that, since the three main-floor event rooms sit above and below other levels of the same building, so a couple choosing this venue is really choosing among several floors, not one flat room.

Amenities

Catering and a bakery both operate on site, which is a meaningful convenience for a couple who would otherwise be coordinating an outside caterer’s delivery schedule around a historic building’s access. All bar licenses are held on site as well, so the bar program does not require a separate permit or a rented liquor license for the day.

On-site accommodations include a two-room suite with a jacuzzi tub and a glass shower, giving the couple somewhere to stay, or get ready, without leaving the property the night of the wedding. Fireplaces are present in every room of the house, which sets a different tone room to room, a detail that shows up in photographs even outside of the ceremony itself.

Location & Getting There

The Clebourne House sits on 1.56 acres in historic downtown Fort Mill, small enough as a footprint that the property feels walkable rather than sprawling, and close enough to town that guests are not driving out into the countryside to find it. Parking is included in the site fee.

Because the venue spans a tri-level house with fireplaces in every room, a covered pavilion over the courtyard, and an open garden terrace, sound behaves differently in each setting, warmer and more contained inside the house’s smaller rooms, more open under the pavilion, and freest on the terrace. A DJ working here plans the setup around whichever of those spaces the reception actually uses, rather than treating the property as one uniform room.
