The Space
The Cabin at Old Spur is a 70 acre weekend-stay property in Timmonsville, built around a pond, woodlands and two log cabins rather than a single event hall. The main cabin is two stories, sleeps up to 16, and has four bedrooms, while a separate groomsmen cabin with its own kitchenette sleeps 6. The whole property, not just a room in it, is rented exclusively from Friday morning through Sunday morning, so a wedding here plays out as a weekend rather than a single evening.
The reception space is a large covered pavilion with elevated ceilings and wooden beams, built with a dance floor and a DJ space already accounted for in the layout. Around it, the property offers a fire pit area, a pond with a beach area and dock, and a shooting range, giving guests places to scatter between the formal parts of the day. Multiple ceremony locations are available, including a double door altar that looks out over the pond.
Capacity & Layout
Seated capacity runs to 300 guests, with standing capacity up to 400, which puts the pavilion in the range of a genuinely large wedding without losing the log cabin, woodland setting. That capacity, combined with the exclusive Friday-to-Sunday rental, means a planner is not squeezing a big guest list into a single fast turnover; there is room to spread ceremony, cocktail hour, reception and any rehearsal dinner across the property and across the weekend rather than one tight afternoon.
On-site sleeping arrangements matter for layout planning too: the two cabins together sleep 16 to 18 guests from Friday through Sunday, with the main cabin’s four bedrooms serving as a bridal suite and the groomsmen cabin’s kitchenette giving the other side of the wedding party its own space. That means the getting-ready logistics do not have to be solved off-property, and a couple can plan a rehearsal dinner at the pavilion the night before without anyone having to drive back in for it.
Amenities
The covered pavilion comes with a covered bar staffed by professional bartenders, and the dance floor and DJ space are part of the same covered structure, so weather is less of a variable for the reception itself. The property is pet-friendly, wheelchair accessible with accessible parking and an ADA-compliant restroom, and open year-round, daily, which gives a couple more flexibility on date than a seasonal-only property would.
Beyond the reception pavilion, the fire pit area and the pond’s beach and dock give guests somewhere to be during downtime between the ceremony and the reception, which matters over a multi-day stay where everyone is on the property rather than dispersed to hotels. The shooting range is an unusual amenity for a wedding venue and works well for a rehearsal-day activity with the wedding party before the more formal parts of the weekend begin.
Location & Getting There
The Cabin at Old Spur sits about 15 minutes outside both Florence and Hartsville, South Carolina, on 70 acres of woodland. We have worked a wedding on this property, and the distance from either town is close enough for guest convenience while keeping the woodland and pond setting genuinely rural, part of the draw for couples choosing a property like this over an in-town venue.
Because the entire property is rented exclusively for the weekend, there is no other event sharing the grounds to plan noise or timing around, which gives more flexibility on when the music can run. Inside the covered pavilion, the elevated ceilings and open wooden-beam construction give sound room to move without the tight bounce of a low, boxed-in room, and with the DJ space built into the pavilion’s layout, setup sits right at the edge of the dance floor rather than tucked off to the side.
