The Space
Before it ever stood in Chapel Hill, this barn spent a century and a half in Marcy, New York, framed up in 1864 with hand-hewn beams and heavy timber joinery. In 2016 it was dismantled board by board, trucked south, and reassembled on 22 acres that also operate as a working flower farm. The result is a barn that reads as genuinely old because it is, restored with air conditioning and modern amenities layered in without covering over the original craftsmanship.
The 22 acres around the barn are planted with European-inspired gardens and heirloom flower fields tended by the same family that runs the venue as a floral design studio. That working landscape is part of the draw: guests walk in past active growing rows rather than manicured decoration, and the barn itself sits as the anchor structure at the center of it, its restored frame visible overhead once you step inside.
Capacity & Layout
Inside, the main reception space opens up under a 35-foot vaulted ceiling across 3,200 square feet of flexible floor, room enough to set a full dance floor, a band or DJ rig, and seating for a sit-down dinner without anyone feeling boxed in by the roofline overhead. That height also means sound has somewhere to go, which matters once toasts, dinner service, and dancing are all happening in the same open volume.
A wall of french doors connects that main room to the garden patio, so the floor plan effectively runs from ceremony lawn to covered veranda to barn interior in one line. Couples can use that flow to keep cocktail hour outside on the veranda while the barn is flipped for reception, then open the doors once dinner service ends so the party can spill both directions.
Amenities
The venue includes a covered veranda built specifically for cocktail hour and a separate garden patio for ceremonies, so the three phases of a wedding day, ceremony, cocktails, reception, each have their own dedicated ground rather than one space doing triple duty. On-site preparation areas mean the wedding party can get ready without leaving the property, which keeps the timeline tighter and cuts down on transportation logistics for photos.
Because Wild Flora Farm also operates as a floral design studio growing heirloom and unique varieties on site, couples booking here often lean into that connection for their own arrangements, and the gardens double as a built-in backdrop for portraits before guests ever reach the barn. Modern comforts, air conditioning chief among them, mean the historic shell doesn’t come with the tradeoffs an unrestored barn would.
Location & Getting There
The property sits on 22 acres outside Chapel Hill, far enough into the countryside that the flower fields and gardens read as genuinely rural rather than landscaped to look that way. That distance from downtown is worth planning around: guests coming from town should build in real drive time, and vendors need clear directions since this isn’t a venue you stumble onto from the main road.
We have played this room, so we can speak to how it runs sonically: the vaulted 35-foot ceiling and open timber frame give the barn a live, resonant quality with plenty of headroom for a hung PA, while the french doors let sound roll out toward the veranda during cocktail hour and seal the room back up once reception starts, keeping levels manageable indoors without fighting a low ceiling.
