The Space

The barn dates to the 1930s, built as a mule barn for farm work before tractors took over, on land the Hodges family has farmed since Eugene Wilson Hodges founded it in the early 1900s. Hurricane Hugo damaged the barn badly in 1989, and it sat unused for storage for 25 years until Mike and Lori Diefenbach restored it in 2014 in partnership with the Hodges family, turning working farm architecture into a wedding venue rather than replacing it outright.

Inside, the Main Barn keeps soaring vaulted ceilings and hangs statement chandeliers from them, pairing the original farm structure with a reception-ready interior. The farmhouse the Hodges family built around 1908 still stands as the property’s centerpiece, and the farm itself is listed on both the National and State Historic Registries and recognized as a North Carolina Century Farm, meaning the same family has worked this land for more than a hundred years.

Capacity & Layout

The venue seats up to 150 guests across its ceremony and reception spaces, a number that fits comfortably within the Main Barn without the room reading as empty at a smaller wedding or cramped at a fuller one. The Meadow, an outdoor ceremony space set beneath an oak tree in rolling pastureland, handles vows, which means the barn itself can be turned entirely to dinner and dancing rather than reset mid-event.

The Courtyard sits between those two spaces with covered gazebos for cocktail hour and lawn games, giving guests somewhere to be while the barn is finished for reception and the ceremony chairs are cleared from the Meadow. That three-space layout, Meadow to Courtyard to Main Barn, lets a wedding move forward in stages across the farm rather than everyone sitting in one room for the entire afternoon and evening.

Amenities

Bride’s and Groom’s suites sit on site for getting ready, with the Bride’s Suite built around makeup stations so hair and makeup can happen where the wedding starts rather than at a hotel across town. On-site parking comes with a parking attendant as part of the rental, handling a detail that otherwise falls to the couple or their planner on the day itself.

The farm’s century of continuous operation by the same family shows up less in any single amenity than in the condition of the buildings themselves, a farmhouse from 1908 still standing, a barn restored rather than built new, land that has moved from row crops to dairy to agritourism without changing hands. That history is part of what a couple is renting along with the physical spaces themselves.

Location & Getting There

The farm sits 15 to 20 minutes from Uptown Charlotte and roughly 10 to 15 minutes from Charlotte Douglas International Airport, close enough that out-of-town guests flying in are not looking at a long drive to reach the property. That proximity to a major airport is worth noting for any couple with guests coming from outside the Carolinas for the weekend.

The venue does not host weddings in January, February, July, or August, so couples working around that window should plan their date accordingly. Inside the Main Barn, the vaulted ceilings and open timber structure give a DJ’s sound room to carry without a low ceiling flattening it, while the enclosed walls keep the reception’s music and speeches from bleeding out into the Meadow or Courtyard during an earlier or later part of the event.
