The Space
The Terrace Room sits on the mezzanine level of Hotel Goldsboro, a building put up in 1924 by architect W.L. Stoddart, who also designed the Sir Walter Hotel in Raleigh. It was the fifth hotel to stand on this downtown Goldsboro site. Two years after the hotel opened, in 1926, a terrace was built off the dining room as an outdoor space where guests could eat somewhere cooler than the indoor dining room, years before air conditioning existed.
That open-air terrace was eventually enclosed, and it has carried the name Terrace Room ever since. The hotel itself closed in the 1970s, but the Terrace Room kept operating as an event space under the Weil family until 2024, when management passed to Literacy Connections of Wayne County, a local nonprofit that now runs the venue alongside its own offices. The rest of the old hotel building today houses Waynesborough House, a private apartment building.
Capacity & Layout
The Terrace Room holds up to 100 guests within 2,500 square feet, a footprint on the smaller side that suits a couple who wants one room to hold a full wedding rather than a sprawling venue with several separate spaces to manage. Art Deco-style tiled floors run through the space, a detail original to its era rather than a modern nod to the period.
Expansive windows give the room sweeping views of downtown Goldsboro, which puts the city itself into the backdrop of photos taken inside rather than requiring a separate outdoor location for that shot. Table options include banquet, cocktail, and serving tables, giving a couple room to lay out a seated dinner, a standing cocktail hour, or a mix of both within the same 2,500 square feet.
Amenities
Setup and breakdown are included with the rental, which takes one task off a couple’s list on a day already full of them, and a dedicated facility attendant is on site during events to handle anything that comes up in the room itself. A catering room is available as part of the rental package, giving caterers a working space separate from the main event floor.
Because Literacy Connections of Wayne County now manages the building, a booking here also supports the nonprofit’s tutoring and literacy work, which happens in the back portion of the same space. That is a detail some couples care about directly: choosing a historic venue that funds a local literacy program rather than a purely commercial event company.
Location & Getting There
The Terrace Room is downtown, on the mezzanine level of a hotel building that has anchored this corner of Goldsboro since 1924, which puts guests within walking distance of the rest of the historic downtown rather than off on the edge of town. The building’s history as the fifth hotel to occupy this site means it has been a gathering point here for a very long time.
An outdoor terrace remains part of the venue and overlooks the historic downtown, giving guests a place to step outside during the reception without leaving the building. Inside, the Art Deco tiled floors and expansive windows make for a hard-surfaced, light-filled room, and a DJ working this space should expect sound to carry cleanly off the tile and glass rather than being absorbed the way a heavily carpeted ballroom would absorb it.
