The Space

A 1905 log cabin lodge anchors 194 wooded acres in the Sandhills at Sycamore Lodge Resort, now grown into a member-based campground with more than 175 shaded sites. The lodge itself spans 6,000 square feet, a genuinely old structure at the center of what has become a much larger resort, and its log construction gives the main gathering space a rustic, cabin-in-the-woods character that is hard to replicate in a newer building.

Around that lodge, the resort operates under Travel Resorts of America across the wooded acreage, open year-round. We have worked an event at this property and found the wooded setting genuinely quiet and private, the kind of Sandhills pine cover that keeps the resort feeling secluded even with well over a hundred sites in operation around it.

Capacity & Layout

The historic lodge itself is the main indoor gathering space, at 6,000 square feet large enough to host a sizable event under its original log-built ceiling and walls. Outside the lodge, the resort’s grounds offer real variety for anything that needs to move outdoors: terraced gardens, a stocked lake, and open areas among the camp sites give an event room to spread beyond the lodge’s four walls if the guest list calls for it.

Because the property functions primarily as a campground with more than 175 sites, layout planning here looks different than at a dedicated event venue: guests and vendors are sharing the grounds with the resort’s regular campers, so timing, noise, and space use benefit from being worked out directly with resort staff ahead of the date rather than assumed the way they might be at a venue built solely for private events.

Amenities

The lodge has wireless internet, and the surrounding resort has a genuinely long amenity list: a swimming pool and hot tub area, a stocked lake with paddle and fishing boats and canoes, mini-golf, nature trails, a playground, horseshoes, and a dog park. For a wedding weekend rather than a single afternoon, that range of things to do gives guests, especially those staying on site, plenty to fill the time between the ceremony and the reception.

Practical infrastructure is in place too: an air-conditioned bathhouse, a general store, golf cart rentals for getting around the 194-acre property, and a full event and activities calendar the resort already runs. Flowering wisteria, dogwood, and azaleas throughout the grounds, along with pine, sycamore, oak, and magnolia trees, give the property a seasonal character worth timing a date around if the couple wants blooms in their photos.

Location & Getting There

The resort sits about 70 miles south of Raleigh and 90 miles east of Charlotte, with the historic Pinehurst golf courses just a few miles away, a detail golf-minded wedding parties may want to build into their weekend. The nearest airports are Piedmont Triad International and Fayetteville Municipal, so out-of-town guests have more than one route in depending on where they are traveling from.

With the historic log lodge as the main indoor space, its original log walls and wood ceiling give the room a warmer, more absorbent acoustic character than a bare hall would, which tends to soften a DJ setup’s sound rather than letting it ring, while any portion of the event held outdoors on the resort’s open grounds will need speakers positioned to reach guests spread across a wooded, less contained space than the lodge itself.
