The Space

The manor at Sycamore Bend Estate was built in 1818 by Reuben Everett, whose family farmed the surrounding land, and it was the very first home constructed on Middle Sound Loop Road. Bought in 2015, the house needed major renovation, but its original timber frame is still standing in its original footprint, and after years of restoration and landscaping work, the estate reopened for events in 2023 on 18 acres of grounds outside Wilmington.

Those 18 acres carry real variety: mature trees, rolling fields, a working stable with show horses, a chapel, and barn structures, so a wedding here is not confined to one house and lawn but spread across a genuinely working estate. Ceremony locations include the manor’s front porch, a spot beneath a magnolia tree, and other points throughout the grounds, giving couples a real choice in setting rather than one fixed ceremony site.

Capacity & Layout

The covered outdoor area seats 125 guests and doubles as a built-in rain plan, meaning an outdoor-style ceremony or reception does not have to gamble entirely on weather. Inside the manor, a bridal suite accommodates the full bridal party, and a separate groom’s room comes with a 93-inch flatscreen, pool table, poker table, and other games, giving both sides of the wedding party a real space to spend the day rather than a small back room.

On-site parking handles up to 50 cars, worth factoring into the guest count and any shuttle planning for a larger wedding. For overnight stays, three residences on the property, the Manor, a loft, and a cottage, sleep up to 26 guests combined, so the wedding party or close family can stay on the grounds itself, with the loft updated in 2022 offering views over the pastures where the estate’s horses graze.

Amenities

Beyond the wedding spaces themselves, the estate has a genuinely unusual amenity list for a property this size: a lit tennis court, a regulation beach volleyball court, a pickleball court, and a stocked fish pond. For a wedding weekend rather than a single-day event, those give guests something to do beyond the ceremony and reception, useful if a couple is hosting a rehearsal dinner or welcome gathering on the property the day before.

The estate provides mesh WiFi across the entire property and more than 45 Sonos outdoor speakers, along with seven 20-amp circuits available for events, meaning the electrical and connectivity infrastructure is already built for a full production rather than needing generators or extension cords run across the lawn. The local noise ordinance begins at 11pm, giving evening receptions a full night’s use of the grounds before music needs to wind down.

Location & Getting There

Sycamore Bend sits outside Wilmington, within easy reach of Wrightsville Beach and close to Wilmington International Airport, so out-of-town guests have a reasonably short trip in from the airport before reaching 18 acres of private grounds. The property’s mix of historic manor, working stable, and open fields gives it a rural, working-estate feel despite being close to the coast and the city.

Because the covered outdoor area functions as the primary all-weather event space, open on the sides but roofed overhead, a DJ setup there benefits from the existing Sonos infrastructure and the cover itself, which keeps sound from dispersing the way it would on fully open lawn, while a ceremony held under the magnolia tree or on the manor’s front porch will carry differently outdoors and is worth walking through with your DJ ahead of time.
