A barn built in just 61 days, finished the night before the owners’ daughter’s wedding in 2016, is the story behind Sunset Farm. The family built it themselves after searching for an existing venue and coming up empty, wanting an outdoor ceremony and a reception catered by the bride’s grandfather’s own barbecue restaurant, Midway BBQ. That origin still shows: this is a barn built for one specific wedding first, then opened to others after. A venue with that kind of origin story tends to have been built with an actual wedding day in mind at every step, not retrofitted from some other use afterward.

We have set up for a wedding in this barn, which sits on a hillside on 168 private acres, giving the property genuine countryside views rather than a flat cleared lot. At 5,000 square feet, fully heated and air-conditioned year-round, the barn functions as a climate-controlled room despite its rustic construction, which matters for a couple booking a date in either a Carolina summer or a cold winter month.

Capacity & Layout

The venue includes 200 white ceremony chairs and 200 brown wood reception chairs, along with 6 eight-foot tables, 2 six-foot tables, and 25 round 60-inch tables, all included in the rental. That inventory points to a wedding built around roughly 200 guests, and having the full run of tables and chairs on site removes a rental delivery and pickup from the couple’s vendor list entirely.

The covered porch extends the barn’s usable footprint outdoors, built to accommodate ceremonies and receptions under cover rather than only inside the barn itself. For a couple planning around that 200-chair set, the porch gives a natural overflow or cocktail-hour space that keeps guests out of direct sun or light rain without pulling them away from the reception.

Amenities

A caterer’s prep and warming kitchen, an ice machine, and a refrigerator are built into the barn, giving any outside caterer real equipment to work with instead of a bare room. Both a bridal suite and a groom’s suite are available on site, so both sides of the wedding party have somewhere private to get ready before the ceremony.

String lights and 4 individually controlled chandeliers handle the barn’s lighting, and an audio system is included with the rental, worth confirming against a DJ’s own equipment rather than assuming it replaces professional sound. Handicap-accessible restrooms sit inside the barn, and on-site parking includes a drop-off area and a designated handicap parking spot, both practical details for a guest list with older relatives. Together, those details mean a couple is not relying on outside rental trucks for either the light plot or the base sound coverage of the room.

Sunset Farm sits on a hillside outside Union, South Carolina, with Union County Airport about 20 minutes away and Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport roughly an hour and nine minutes out, the more likely option for guests flying in from farther away. On-site hours run from 8:30am to 11:30pm, a wide enough window to cover setup, the full day, and teardown without rushing.

Inside the barn, the timber construction and covered porch give a DJ a defined indoor room backed by a sheltered outdoor extension, so sound can be kept contained to the barn’s four walls for the reception while the porch stays available as a quieter overflow space, useful for conversation away from the speakers during a loud stretch of the dance floor.
