The Space
Stone House sits on 10 acres in the Watchung Mountains, land that once held the Chanticler Chateau before by Landmark founders Jeanne and Frank Cretella reimagined the property in 2007. The design draws on Frank Lloyd Wright, and the estate is described as New Jersey’s only Frank Lloyd Wright inspired wedding venue, built around natural materials, clean lines, and architecture that stays connected to the mountain setting around it. That approach carries through every room a couple will actually use on their wedding day.
The Grand Ballroom is the signature room, with 16 foot ceilings, glass walls, and direct access to terraces outside. That glass line matters for a wedding day: it keeps the mountain views and gardens visible from the dance floor rather than shutting the party into a sealed box, and it lets the terrace function as an extension of the reception rather than a separate stop on the schedule. The Lodge offers a second, smaller scale space with its own character.
Capacity & Layout
The Grand Ballroom seats up to 325 guests, the number a couple weighs against their invite list before anything else, and The Lodge holds up to 170, a size that suits a smaller guest list without losing the venue’s architectural character. Both rooms are booked exclusively, meaning a couple in the Grand Ballroom is not sharing halls, entrances, or staff with another event happening the same night.
Because Stone House runs two independent event spaces, two weddings can take place on the property at once without crossing paths, which is worth knowing if a couple is choosing a date during a busy season. Beyond the two ballrooms, the Library offers a smaller indoor and outdoor space for 10 to 40 guests, useful for a rehearsal dinner or a more intimate gathering ahead of a Grand Ballroom wedding the next day.
Amenities
Executive Chef David Drake, who has more than 20 years of experience and is credited as a New Jersey pioneer of modern American cuisine built on classical French technique, leads the kitchen. Ingredients come from by Landmark’s own Dancing Goat Farm and an in-house butcher shop, both on the property, so the menu a couple tastes at their tasting is largely grown or raised a short walk from where it is served. The wine program has won Wine Spectator recognition.
The Grand Ballroom has its own dedicated bridal suite, and The Lodge has an attached suite with a private room, bathroom, and balcony, giving each wedding party a real space to get ready rather than a shared hallway. A full service bar with a premium open bar is built into wedding packages, and valet parking is complimentary for every guest, which matters on a property spread across 10 acres where walking from a distant lot is not an option.
Location & Getting There
Stone House sits in the Watchung Mountains in Warren, New Jersey, and the grounds are part of the day itself: gardens, patios, fire pits, and bocce courts give a couple’s photographs and cocktail hour a setting that changes with the season rather than one fixed backdrop. There is no hotel on site, though a boutique hotel has been discussed for the future, so most guests will be driving in for the day or staying nearby.
The Albion Summit in Summit, New Jersey is the preferred hotel partner, about 18 minutes from the property, worth passing along to out of town guests when invitations go out. Inside, the Grand Ballroom’s glass walls and open floor work well for sound: the 16 foot ceiling gives a DJ room to run speakers overhead rather than at guest ear height, and the terrace access lets music carry outside during cocktail hour without fighting the acoustics of a closed room.
