The Space

Southern Charm Events opened in 2017 as a newly built venue, and the first wedding was held there on May 6, 2017 while construction was still being finished around the guests, which says something about how the owners’ vision for the room came together in real time rather than being unveiled complete. The centerpiece is a 6,500 square foot ballroom with seven chandeliers, a fireplace, and dimmer lights, a room built specifically as an event space rather than adapted from another use.

Outside, a 1,700 square foot covered pavilion adds eight ceiling fans and a stone fireplace, and the venue describes itself as the only covered pavilion venue in the area, which matters practically as much as aesthetically: a covered outdoor ceremony does not need a rain plan the way an open lawn does. Between the ballroom and the pavilion, a couple gets one indoor and one outdoor option built at the same time, in the same style.

Capacity & Layout

Southern Charm seats up to 250 guests indoors in the ballroom and up to 250 in the outdoor pavilion, giving a couple genuine flexibility about where the larger part of the day happens rather than one space being an overflow afterthought. A terrace sits between the two for guests to mingle, so the property is laid out as three connected zones, ballroom, terrace, pavilion, rather than one room with an outdoor add-on.

A catering kitchen and prep area sit off the ballroom, and the venue requires caterers from an approved list, which keeps food service running smoothly through a room this size. A full-size bar area and a full-size dance floor are both already built into the space, so a couple is not adding those as rentals on top of the venue fee, they come with the ballroom itself.

Amenities

Tables and chairs are provided with setup and takedown included, which removes a full category of rental logistics for a couple planning around a 250 person ballroom. Private bridal and groom’s suites are both included, the bridal suite with its own private bathroom for the bride and her attendants, and the groom’s suite described as comfortable enough for the groom’s family and groomsmen to actually spend time in rather than just change clothes.

A garden area on the property is set aside specifically for photography, giving a couple a dedicated backdrop beyond the ballroom and pavilion. WiFi is available throughout, which matters more than it sounds for a modern reception with a photo booth, livestreaming guests, or vendors needing a connection. Parking is paved and provided at no charge, a small detail that adds up across 250 arriving guests.

Location & Getting There

Southern Charm sits about 30 minutes from Charlotte Douglas International Airport, close enough to make it a realistic choice for a couple with out of town family flying in, and close to Charlotte and I-77 for guests staying at hotels near the city. Rock Hill itself keeps the venue a short drive from a major airport without placing it inside Charlotte’s downtown traffic.

We have worked a wedding here before, in both the ballroom and the covered pavilion. The pavilion’s stone fireplace and ceiling fans sit under a full roof, so unlike an open lawn tent, it is built to hold sound the way a covered structure does, while the ballroom’s higher, chandelier-lit ceiling gives a DJ an indoor room with real height to work the volume up without it feeling like it is bouncing off a low drop ceiling.
