The Space

Souther Williams Vineyard sits on land that has been in the same family for more than two hundred years, land that once made up part of a 10,000 acre valley along Hoopers Creek back in the mid-1800s. Owners Ken and Angela Parker left careers in banking and technology to return to that family farm, planting the first vines in 2015 and opening the tasting room to the public in April 2022, so the property a couple tours today is a working vineyard built on genuinely old ground.

The centerpiece is an open-air pavilion tasting room that looks out over the vineyard rows, with additional seating spread across patios and the surrounding grounds. Remnants of the original homeplace are still visible on the property, alongside a Spring House and an old barn, so the setting mixes an active, planted vineyard with the physical traces of the family history behind it rather than presenting a manicured, built from scratch event lawn.

Capacity & Layout

The pavilion holds up to 100 guests under its roof, with room for more spread across the patios and grounds beyond that covered footprint, so a couple’s guest list decides how much of the day happens under cover versus out among the vines. That 100 person figure is worth planning around directly: it is a comfortable number for a mid-sized wedding, but a couple expecting a larger crowd needs to lean on the outdoor grounds to make the numbers work.

Ceremonies use the open grounds and a dedicated ceremony lawn, separate from the pavilion where the reception happens, so guests move from an open-air vineyard setting into the covered tasting room over the course of the day. With 8 acres currently planted and 5 more acres planned, the working vineyard itself is part of the layout, not a backdrop glimpsed from a parking lot.

Amenities

The property already has a state-of-the-art sound system built in, along with heated and cooled bathrooms and handicap accessibility, the kind of infrastructure details that separate a venue built for events from a working farm that happens to host them occasionally. A mobile bar rounds that out, giving a couple bar service without needing to bring in an outside setup.

Two Airbnb cottages on the property offer overnight accommodation with vineyard views, so a wedding party or close family can stay exactly where the ceremony happens rather than driving in the next morning. For a couple who wants their wedding weekend to include a slower, vineyard paced Hike and Sip tour, that roughly 75 minute walk through the hillside vines is a built-in activity for the day before or after.

Location & Getting There

The vineyard sits about 15 to 20 minutes from Asheville Regional Airport, and roughly 20 minutes from both Asheville and Hendersonville, which puts it within easy reach for guests flying in without placing it in the middle of either city. That distance also means the mountain views from the property are real rather than a marketing description, part of the Crest of the Blue Ridge wine region recognized as its own American Viticultural Area in 2019.

We have worked a wedding here before, in the open-air pavilion with its built-in sound system already in place. That existing sound system tells a DJ something useful before ever arriving: the venue has already solved for how music carries under a roof that is open on the sides to the vineyard air, so the room is designed with amplified sound in mind rather than working against it.
